Re: The National
So let's make a 14-16 song mix of The National for someone (my wife) who has heard them in the background (car rides mainly) and said that she liked what she had heard. Here's a first draft:
Terrible Love (alternate)
Afraid of Everyone
All The Wine
Exile Vilify
England
Bloodbuzz Ohio
Apartment Story
Fake Empire
Lemonworld
Wasp's Nest
Murder Me Rachael
Lit Up
Brainy
Fashion Coat
Green Gloves
Lucky You
Terrible Love (alternate)
Afraid of Everyone
All The Wine
Exile Vilify
England
Bloodbuzz Ohio
Apartment Story
Fake Empire
Lemonworld
Wasp's Nest
Murder Me Rachael
Lit Up
Brainy
Fashion Coat
Green Gloves
Lucky You

Slow Show has to be on there.

It's really one of the best songs of the past 10 years by any band, so, yeah, Slow Show has to be on there.Angus wrote:4/5 wrote:Slow Show has to be on there.

yeah... the opening lyrics are some of the best I've ever heard. Limiting it to 15 songs is tough!Chris_H_2 wrote:It's really one of the best songs of the past 10 years by any band, so, yeah, Slow Show has to be on there.Angus wrote:4/5 wrote:Slow Show has to be on there.

The National have announced details of their sixth studio album: Trouble Will Find Me is out on May 20 via 4AD (May 21 in North America). The album was recorded at Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, NY, and was self-produced, with mixing by Craig Silvey, Peter Katis, and Marcus Paquin. That's the artwork above. The album will be released digitally, on CD, 180gm vinyl, and in a limited edition deluxe boxed vinyl set. It follows 2010's High Violet.
In a release, frontman Matt Berninger writes:
"For the past 10 years we'd been chasing something, wanting to prove something. And this chase was about trying to disprove our own insecurities. After touring High Violet, I think we felt like we'd finally gotten there. Now we could relax-- not in terms of our own expectations but we didn't have to prove our identity any longer."
Aaron Dessner, the band's guitarist, said "our ideas would immediately click with each other. It's free-wheeling again. The songs on one level are our most complex, and on another they're our most simple and human. It just feels like we've embraced the chemistry we have."
Check out the tracklist below, followed by the National's current touring schedule, and videos of the band performing new songs at December's ATP festival. The National are also the subject of a forthcoming documentary by Matt's brother, Tom Berninger.
Trouble Will Find Me:
01 I Should Live in Salt
02 Demons
03 Don't Swallow the Cap
04 Fireproof
05 Sea of Love
06 Heavenfaced
07 This is the Last Time
08 Graceless
09 Slipped
10 I Need My Girl
11 Humiliation
12 Pink Rabbits
13 Hard to Find

That's usually not a very good sign. But here's to hoping.oasisfan35 wrote: "For the past 10 years we'd been chasing something, wanting to prove something. This is one band though in which I have total faith when I hear them say something like this.Angus wrote:That's usually not a very good sign.
