Im pretty ok with what the Lions did today. Bush should fill the Best role very well, which makes all the difference in the world in their offense. Quin and and the DLineman are by all accounts nice players. Getting Houston back is good, especially if they go after any of the other million CB's on the market to compliment him.

goldson seems like he's worth the $. safety's have become what middle line backers used to be, so its expected they are going to be paid more.

I know. I heard the rumors/speculation but didn't see that one coming to be. They'll stay a passing offense but now the other team will have to respect the run attack.

That was nice. I think the bigger pickup though is Bushrod. But it is nice that Unicorn is a good blocker too.

I am not surprised at all that the Broncos are tied for the fewest compensatory picks awarded amongst non-expansion teams. I'm also guessing that they have the longest active streak of missing out on picks--eight seasons and counting, and given the mini-splurge they just went on, that streak will almost certainly move to nine. Maybe it's for the better: the last time they had a compensatory pick, they used it on Maurice Clarett.

So the tuck rule is no more. 29-1 vote with the Redskins and (of course) Patriots abstaining, and the Steelers voting no (makes sense, since Big Ben loves to pump fake so much).

I know I'm going to get a lot of guff for this, but I think this is a mistake. With the tuck rule you at least had a bright line in which any forward motion was considered a forward pass, even if that motion was directed towards the ground. Now, the officials are going to have to try and read minds and make a judgment call on whether or not the QB was passing or fumbling. I think the cure could be worse than the disease here.

I disagree just because I think this reduces the fan confusion. If your arm is by your head, you are passing essentially up by your shoulder, and we've got replay. We'll be able to tell if it's a pump fake or he's throwing the ball 9 times out of 10 especially with Rothlisburger.

There are going to be a few more fumbles, in a league that has given the offense all of the advantage, the little shimmy that is the half pump fake is going to be called a fumble as it should be when it is knocked clear of the passer. If his hand gets stopped while moving forward it's a pass, if he drops the ball or it's knocked clear it's a fumble. I think this may even make it more clear (IE the balls on the ground it's probably a fumble) Even if a few forward passes are called fumbles initially, I like the idea of it being easier on the defensive player to cause a fumble, because QB's have every other advantage.

Also, I like the new crown of the helmet rule AKA: (Spearing) I'm sure it will be applied poorly initially, and that Trent Richardson blowing up of the Eagles DB that was sighted was absolutley not spearing. The head dip that generally DB's and small special teamers are responsible for is what causes most spinal injuries and leads to many leg injuries on other players. This is a rule that reinforces the fundamentals. See what you HIT. RB's can lower thier shoulders still, but they can't use the top of the helmet as a battering ram, and neither can defenders. This is going to be a good rule, that makes football better. We should actually see better tackling and more wrapping up because of it.

I guess I'm not the average fan, but I see the potential for more confusion. Where is the magic moment when the ball has moved in far enough to declare it a pump fake? Different camera angles could tell different stories depending on the level of view. I just have a feeling that there will be some playoff game that's disputed the same as the tuck rule game thanks to this.

I do agree with you on approving the RB helmet rule, though. All the RBs complaining about this should just use a stiff arm instead. It'll look more badass anyway, since you'll be striking your Heisman pose.

i'm almost certain we will be yelling over the poor application of these rules next year, but it can't be any worse than the Packers at Seattle last season. I guess I feel like replay will help the initial confusion with the fumble/forward pass issue, and I don't think fumbles on tucks are all that prevelant. Most of the time I feel like they are fumbles.

Jarvis Jones "poor" 40 time is not worrysome for teams that play 3-4. What it means is what we already knew, Jarvis Jones is a pass rush specialist. He's not going to cover TE's all the way down field. He can do it for short periods of time, but he's paid to be a disruptive game changing ball player and that's what he will be, What yesterday means is that a 4-3 defense absolutely has crossed out Jarvis Jones as a canidate. He's not playing in a 4-3.

What do you mean by stiff-arming? You stiff arm people coming from the side, not straight at you. That is when you lower down and hit them...
