Yes, I can't come up with another system that is any more "fair". That is true. I think this is as good as its going to get.
The only problem I have is that maybe being equally "fair" to people with 10, 15, 20 years in the fan club as they are with people who signed up last week isn't the best idea.
But it's always been like that! Seniority only applies after you've already purchased the tickets, it never increased your odds of actually getting in the door against other members.
I'm sorry i honestly don't think so. they may have claimed that seniority didn't matter back then, but how was i NEVER shut out? Luck? I've been to chicago stadium 94, regal 94, soldier field 95, all the alpine shows, and about 20 shows in 2003 alone. are you saying that demand is much higher now than in their heyday? i don't know man whatever ill stop. i just think seniority should mean something as far as GETTING tickets. Gold Coast Tickets in chicago has over a dozen memberships. not cool

We are sorry, your name was not drawn for a pair of Ten Club tickets. The credit card authorization will now be canceled releasing the $1 authorization back to the card.
Your next opportunity to purchase Pearl Jam tickets will be during the public ticket sale. For public ticket sale info please visit the Pearl Jam tour page: http://pearljam.com/tour

Seniority for ticket PURCHASES has not mattered since I joined in 2001. It only matter for SEAT LOCATION (GA and the old row 1,2,9,10 lottery not withstanding).

It didn't matter in 2000 either (I joined in 99). And I doubt it matter for the 94 tour. In 1999 there were less than 200k members worldwide, that number is much greater today. On top of that, the fanbase has more money, and a greater means to travel in 2014 as a whole. So yeah, as far as fan club tickets go, I do think the demand is greater today than it was in their heyday.

People don't fully understand the concept of supply and demand. You are not going to help them, unfortunately.

75 shows a tour back then and 10 shows a tour now is a big part of it

I didn't say its any different, I just said its maybe not the best idea for today.
That logic is a lot like a kid saying its ok to punch the cat just because his little friend Johnny always punches his cat
I know that for both the 96 and 98 US tours, you picked as many shows as you wanted off of a mailer card, sent it in with your check, and you got two tickets to as many shows as you listed, seated by order of seniority. There may have been a disclaimer that said you weren't guaranteed every show you wanted, but I know I got tickets for all of those that I chose. Maybe seniority mattered in getting tix, maybe it didn't, it wasn't very clear. But at that time, there wasn't the supply/demand dynamic like there is now. Combination of fewer fan club members and more shows meant everyone got what they wanted, the 10C made it work.
That said, I agree this wouldn't work today, and that seniority probably didn't factor into getting the shows you wanted back then. Still, though, with the reality of today's technology, there has to be a tiered lottery system of some sort that would give some kind of show selection preference to long standing fan club members over the people that just joined.

In '98 you were only allowed to pick one show. And in '96 I actually got shut out of my nearest show, though Ten Club was nice enough to let me pick a different show. I guess it was a different time...
I did not play the lottery this round but I have some sage wisdom to share (and answers to a few questions posed throughout this thread):
The fact that seniority doesn't factor into getting tickets is fucked. It is total BS that ticket brokers have a Johnny Come Lately fan club number and have the same odds as my 129xxx. Fuck that shit. Why the hell am I even in the 10c? Seriously. That being said I went 3/4 last tour but did not get any GA (all top choices) and missed out on Seattle of all places.
Someone asked about getting regular tix via Ticketmaster in the public sale a few days later. I did that for Dallas and Seattle last year. I was ON it the minute sales were live. Got a pair of nosebleeds to each show with horrible viewing angles. I can't believe so many other people beat me out for better seats literally 5 seconds into the public sale. But I did get tickets.
People are acting like getting shut out on their 10c lottery choices means they cannot attend. Ummmm - people - there is a public sale and tons of online groups looking to mix & match PJ tickets. You can get into any arena show, probably for face value, you just might not get as good of seats as you would have via the 10c lottery. So stop freaking. You can still go to the show. I promise.
It's still fucked though, that your club number is so worthless these days.
In 1996 I remember being told that I couldn't get 10C tix to the Toledo show because they underestimated the number of requests and being guaranteed first dibs on tix the next tour. Sure enough, I got front row for Alpine in 1998. At least they gave a shit about people being shut out back then.

Well, I think i picked three in '98 (KC, St. Louis, and Alpine) plus two other shows thru TM later. Maybe it was one per leg or something.
In 96, i could only go to the toledo show. Had no problem getting it.
I don't think seniority mattered in getting a ticket, but back then it didn't have to.
I went to 3 shows in the 90's and did not have any trouble getting tickets as I recall. Spent time on the rail at all 3 (all in Seattle) as the GA sections were much larger.
In fact, in '98 I had an extra that I simply could not get rid of. I think there were 3 of us that went together. Ended up giving the 4th to a bum on the sidewalk on the way in. I hope he saw the show, or was able to sell it.
I also saw them at the Paramount in 2005 - they only played about a dozen songs - had an extra that night which I only could get about $20 for.
finally got home to check. got st paul ga at #1 and lincoln reserved at #8. my friend mike got milwaukee ga for us, so i'll still be trying for two tix for moline and an extra or two for st paul. all in all happy with how things played out but still hoping to snag that one extra show. will definitely try on friday.

Honestly this is the fairest system, with two tweaks:
1.Lottery to get a ticket to the show. 2nd lottery after the fact for those that want GA
2. One show per member per Leg of a tour. Anything left is up for grabs on the website old school way.
