4 songs that kinda suck shouldn't mean you just revile the album though (although maybe you don't)

Does thinking 10 out of 11 songs rank from kinda suck to downright suck allow one to revile the album? Please say yes.

Yes. You'd be wrong about the songs, obviously, but if you do think that many suck then you have it appropriately ranked.

Considering how much their recent work apparently sucks, it is amazing how many new fans are just now coming on board. The 2014 tour threads and Facebook groups include a lot of people who will be seeing PJ live for their first time this year.

Indicative of the overall state of the music industry? Where sucky music is what becomes popular.

(Some sarcasm intended in places above, you figure out where)

As I am too unpatient to wait for the "Major Flaw Backspacer Thread" I am going to post it here:

I recently had this thought that Backspacer could have been a cooler album if they had fully pursued the idea of making a fun record. They did it partly by including songs like Johnny Guitar, Fixer and Supersonic and by writing rather short songs. But these songs are surrounded by more classic Pearl Jam songs that are of mediocre quality (Force of Nature, Amongst the Waves, Got Some). A short album full of Johnny Guitars and Fixers would have been cool. Well, definitely more Johnny Guitars than Fixers, but you know what I mean.

That's a fair critique.

I think an album having even one song I really don't care for is something of a deal-breaker for me; if it isn't a cohesive and enjoyable listening experience all the way through, it's very rarely going to be something I feel like returning to. Pearl Jam haven't managed that since Yield for me.

Wow. I can only think of a handful of albums by anyone ever that would meet that criteria. Pearl Jam just happens to have 4. Some of my favorite artists (like Tom Waits) don't have a single album where there's not a song I'd skip

Is it? Amazing? Really? I'm not sure I've seen that influx.

That said, this album has some good summer tunes on it. I might spin it again at some point as the weather gets warmer.

Pearl Jam have produced 4 of my top albums, and I still skip songs on each.

Maybe the only albums I don't skip: Sgt Peppers, OK Computer, Nevermind.

Actually, I tend to skip garden. If you count the disputed songs in vitalogy the only two pj albums I'd listen to from start to finish are vs and lightning bolt.

I skip songs on my 3 favorite all time albums

Oh man, not me. I love No Code, like I have an irrational love for it, but I effing hate "I'm Open". It's a stupid song, and I skip it 99% of the time when I listen to NC.
