Re: NBA Thread
I'm a combination of nervous and excited at the moment. After Game 1's blowout loss I'll be wearing adult diapers for the next two weeks, but for now I'm optimistic. The Spurs are the better team, but we have LeBron, so I'm taking the Heat in 6 or 7. Having said that, the Spurs are rightfully favored in this series, and I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they win the series.
Stupid Ibaka had to get hurt and then KD had to slip and fall over himself...man I would have loved if the Heat got the Thunder. Oh well. But for every non-Heat fan this has got to be the dream matchup.
Oh, I GOT TICKETS TO GAME 3!!!!!!!!!!!!! It'll be my first NBA Finals game ever. I'm in the back row of the nosebleeds and tix were $250 a pop, but I'm in the building! Never mind that the last playoff game I went to was the infamous game 5 ECF against Boston when the Big 3 was pronounced dead.

Spurs HAVE to win the first two games! I would never call Miami lucky because they are just too good but the last few years things seem to always go their way when they need it most. With a two game lead the Spurs can pull one of their Pop quits early games or Manu craps himself games and still have a chance.

I hear you about Duncan. IMO, he already is the best player of his generation, but you're right, this would probably cement his case. Talk about sustained greatness. Has anybody ever played as consistently as Duncan for as long a period of time as he has/is?Lament wrote:I'm pretty excited for Heat-Spurs part II. There's so much going for this series. This is gonna be great.
-Rematch of one of the best finals in recent memory, highlighted by amazing games six & seven.
-The best player of his generation trying to lead his team to a three-peat, thereby putting a big stamp on his case for inclusion in future best player of any generation arguments.
-Duncan trying to win a fifth ring to cement his case against Kobe as the best player of his generation.
-A third head to head battle between LBJ and Duncan, two of the four best post-Jordan players (along with Kobe and Shaq).
-Popovich trying to win a fifth ring to entire an elite group of coaches (Jackson, Auerbach, Riley, Kundla).
-Wade and Parker attempting to join an elite group of (future) Hall of Famers with four championship rings.
This is gonna be so good. So, so good.
The two best organizations in the NBA meeting again for the title.

Oh, I have to get an obligatory LOL @ Lance Stephenson out of the way before we move on. Has a player ever cost himself so much money in a 2 game span? Incredible.

I'm saying Spurs in 7. The switch to the 2-2-1-1-1 format will be for the better I think.
That's awesome you are going to game 3 4/5. Hope you get a good game.

I don't think the Spurs can go 7. This has been a tougher post-season run then last year. Their best hope is to win 1 and 2, steal game 3 or 4, then finish them in game 5.

The desire to avenge last year's Finals is there. That can give the motivation and energy if the series drags on. Pop will rest his starters if things get out of hand in any of the early games.turned2black wrote:I don't think the Spurs can go 7. This has been a tougher post-season run then last year. Parker killed the Heat through Game 5 of last year's Finals before hurting his hammy and he's gimpy right now. The longer he has to be out there, the more likely it is that he will come up lame. Patty Mills has been awesome, but he's no TP.Monkey_Driven wrote:The desire to avenge last year's Finals is there. That can give the motivation and energy if the series drags on. I don't see either team going down in 5. I can however see either team winning in 6 or 7. Home court is huge (especially with how amazing Danny Green is at home) but both of these teams are strong enough to win a clinching game on the road, though obviously that isn't desirable.turned2black wrote:I don't think the Spurs can go 7. I'm totally in the minority among people I've talked to; basically nobody believes the Heat can win game 7 in SA, but I do. But then again, I think the Spurs could clinch it in Miami as well.
The big thing at the moment is for Miami to take one of these first two. Game two, I'm looking at you.
