Heard another tune from the upcoming Strand of Oaks record the other night. It's called JM and is a tribute to Jason Molina and it is the most epic tune I have heard in some time. Having now heard that plus the J Mascis number I'm very keen to hear the rest of the record.

Been a reasonable year to date. I'd like to spend more time with the Mogwai record.

New Earth album out in September, called Primitive and Deadly: https://www.facebook.com/thronesanddomi ... 55009242:0

Apparently, it's supposed to be more "rock" oriented. Dylan Carlson and Adrienne Davies are still the core members, with Bill Herzog playing bass and Brett Netson and Jodie Cox contributing additional guitar. Additionally, there's a couple of guest vocalists present: Mark Lanegan (which should pique the interest of some users here) and Rabia Shaheen Qazi.

Besides that, Carlson's got a film score coming out this year, as well, in June. It's titled Gold and is being released under his pen name Drcarlsonalbion.

Greg? Saunier reveals in an interview that there's a new Deerhoof album coming out on November 4. No details beyond that at the moment, besides the fact that it was meant to be properly recorded in a studio, but they liked the rehearsal recordings so much that they became the album tracks.

Really liked what little I've heard of the Buzzo solo record.

I'm just listening to this new tune now, and I like it way more than any of the benefit covers of JM songs that have come out in the past year or so. It sort of captures the spirit of Jason's aesthetic without being a clone of his music, you know? Also, I'm a sucker for songs about how music can save you life/mind when you desperately need it to. When I get my next paycheck, I'm almost certainly going to pick up a few SoO records!

Downloaded a few in the past couple of days (wish I had money for LPs, but I don't get paid until the beginning of July :( ) including new music from The Donkeys, Centro-Matic, and the Sharon van Etten,
