Re: Redskins name controversy
The only name change I like is no name. Just Washington. Some will still call them the Redskins, some (as they do now) will refer to them as "The Burgundy & Gold", they can keep the fight song, and keep the colors. The team will have no official mascot, and no logo on their helmets / uniforms.Green Habit wrote:I have heard a lot of Washington Griffins proposals, though...E.H. I know you don't like that GH, but to me it's better than some new corny name like Wizards, or naming the team after a bird or big cat or something (nothing wrong with bird / cat names, but there are already a lot).
Many say "Warriors" would be a good one, and Danny Boy (rumor has it) already bought rights to it. I don't like that either. The Washington Football Club is the only acceptable name change to me. Anything else would probably be stupid.

Re: Redskins name controversy
That's definitely the best move... or the Pigskins. They could have a dancing football mascot beneath the goalpost, signaling 'no good' anytime opponents kick field goals or extra points. Hell, their fans already dress like (and look like) hogs. They could just go with that and keep the colors. Endless possibilities. They could just be the Skins and have their cheerleaders cheer topless... If that offends ANYONE, they should be scalped!
I personally miss the black Redskins and Cowboys mascots who used to fight each other on the sidelines back in the day, but I guess that's double-racialist.

Go with DC Football Club and we can call it a draw.darth_vedder wrote:The only name change I like is no name. Just Washington. I'm down with that. Can you get me Dan Snyder on the phone?
Looks like some are already kinda thinking along those lines anyway:

That first one is just begging for division rivals to interpret as "We Are Dick".

Re: Redskins name controversy
Apparently you can't trademark a disparaging name. Good to know.

Ack! You're right. Well, that logo won't work then. But in general, I'm really warming up to the idea that the team just doesn't have a mascot. I'm totally fine with that, and like I've said, I like it better than any alternative I've heard. This of course means the team will change to "Warriors". Although, I've heard that if they do that, they would possibly go back to this helmet (the one FSU stole from the R-words).Green Habit wrote:That first one is just begging for division rivals to interpret as "We Are Dick".

Maybe, that isn't horrible, but I still like the no name idea. Best one I've heard.BurtReynolds wrote:What if they just changed it to Native Americans?

That''s not bad either. I like the no name idea more, but "Natives" is better than "Warriors" or cat/bird names.Thejambi wrote:Washington Natives
Some smart-asses suggested to change the logo to a potato (a redskin potato, or peanut) and keep the name.

Re: Redskins name controversy
I'm generally a fan of names that relate to the city (like 49ers). Something like Senators or Nationals would be stupid though. " Bureaucrats" could work.

Re: Redskins name controversy
using the spear with an eagle feather, and changing the name to "Warriors" would be a horrible move. Its basically saying "okay we wont call you the racist R word anymore, instead we'll revert to stereotyping you as blood thirsty warriors" youre just switching one horrible stereotype for another.darth_vedder wrote:Ack!
