Serial ‘Tickler’ Breaking into Boston College Students’ Homes

A man has been breaking into the homes of students who live near Boston College and watching them sleep or tickling their feet, police and several alleged victims have confirmed.

Police report at least 10 sightings of the so-called Tickler, who some in the neighborhood had long believed to be a myth. At least three students report having encountered him on the same night, April 7.

“This is no myth,” said Sergeant Michael O’Hara, community service officer for the Boston Police district that covers Allston and Brighton. “It’s happening.”

The Tickler has been reported over the last two years in an area from Lake Street to South Street in Brighton popular with BC students who live off campus, O’Hara said.

Victims have described him as a 5-foot-8-inch black male of unknown age in dark clothing and a hoodie, he said. Some reported that the man watched them through their windows as he committed a sex act.

Teddy Raddell, a BC junior, said he was jolted from a sound sleep at 5 a.m. on a Sunday in October by the sound of someone running down the stairs of the house he shares with several fellow Boston College students.

“I thought my roommate had fallen down the steps,” Raddell said, “but then he started yelling. I got up and he said that he had woken up to someone touching his feet.”

Like other students, he said no valuables were stolen.

“The guy didn’t take anything and there were laptops and wallets out in the main room,” said Raddell, who lives on Radnor Road.

BC junior Daniel Marenzi said he woke up late, also on a Sunday in October, to his feet being tickled.

“I thought my friend was just trying to annoy me, but I soon realized it wasn’t anyone I knew,” Marenzi says. “I freaked out and sat up but he was already on the way out.”

He said he and his housemates now lock all their doors.

O’Hara said many students living off campus leave their doors unlocked, however.

“Absolutely students should be concerned,” he said. “You don’t know what this guy is going to do or if he has a weapon. You need to lock your doors. It’s not as safe as you think.”

It was 3:45 a.m. on April 7 when Jake Barrows was awakened, he said.

“Someone was standing at the end of the bed, and by the time I realized there was someone really there, he was booking it right out my door,” said Barrows, a BC junior who lives on Foster Street. “When I was finally out of bed and following, he was out the back door.”

He said he hasn’t slept in his room since that night.

Just over an hour later, Billy Buckley awoke to the sight of someone opening his bedroom door, he said. He called his roommate’s name, and got no response.

The figure slowly crept away, sprinted down the steps, and slammed the front door, said Buckley, who lives on Foster Street.

“The Tickler had made a visit,” he said, certain now that the stories he had heard are true.

Jonny Goldowsky said he also had a run-in with the Tickler. Goldowsky, who lives in the same house as Barrows, said that, a month before his roommate’s encounter, he heard shuffling at the door to his room and saw a man there in a Gator-style ski mask.

All of these students, and others in the neighborhood, said they would like to see more of a police presence.

“I’d really like it and probably feel safer if BPD had a patrol car off campus every night,” Goldowsky said.

Barrows said there are more police in the neighborhood on nights when students have parties than at other times.

“I don’t think there is much that can be done, but hopefully the Boston police can throw a few more police around at weird times instead of just a million cops on Friday and Saturday nights, then one on Sunday night,” he said.

O’Hara said that this won’t solve the problem.

“People calling in saying they want more patrol cars won’t do anything. They need to report crimes when they happen,” he said. “It’s a low crime area. We patrol areas based on the crime statistics.”

There is no hard evidence in the cases, O’Hara said, and no photos or video of the alleged Tickler. “If we had something to go on,” he said, “we would.”

3 Home Invasions Reported Within 1/4 Mile Overnight In Brighton; At Least One Victim Tickled

BOSTON (CBS) – Boston police are investigating three home invasions in the same Brighton neighborhood over the span of an hour-and-a-half.

The first break-in happened at 249 Foster Street around 3:55 a.m. A man who lives there reported that he woke up to find a man standing in his bedroom. The suspect was described as being tall with a medium build and wearing a mask and dark-colored clothing.

A second man reported waking up at 4:50 a.m. to find someone standing in his room at 64 Kirkwood Road, which is less than a quarter of a mile away. That suspect was described as a short to medium-sized man with light colored clothing, a sweater and a black mask.

A third incident happened about 5:20 a.m. at 239 Foster Street.

There, Boston College student David Master, told WBZ that his roommate woke up to the suspect tickled his feet.

“He felt tickling on his foot that he thought was the cat,” Master said. “Woke up and there was a man crouched right beside his bed.”

Master says his roommate kicked the man, was wearing light-colored clothing and a black mask, and took off running.

Nothing was stolen in any of the break-ins. In all three instances, investigators say the victims had left their doors unlocked.

Boston police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

Yesterday, there was a wall of Tesla patents in the lobby of our Palo Alto headquarters. That is no longer the case. They have been removed, in the spirit of the open source movement, for the advancement of electric vehicle technology.

Tesla Motors was created to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport. If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal. Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology.

When I started out with my first company, Zip2, I thought patents were a good thing and worked hard to obtain them. And maybe they were good long ago, but too often these days they serve merely to stifle progress, entrench the positions of giant corporations and enrich those in the legal profession, rather than the actual inventors. After Zip2, when I realized that receiving a patent really just meant that you bought a lottery ticket to a lawsuit, I avoided them whenever possible.

At Tesla, however, we felt compelled to create patents out of concern that the big car companies would copy our technology and then use their massive manufacturing, sales and marketing power to overwhelm Tesla. We couldn’t have been more wrong. The unfortunate reality is the opposite: electric car programs (or programs for any vehicle that doesn’t burn hydrocarbons) at the major manufacturers are small to non-existent, constituting an average of far less than 1% of their total vehicle sales.

At best, the large automakers are producing electric cars with limited range in limited volume. Some produce no zero emission cars at all.

Given that annual new vehicle production is approaching 100 million per year and the global fleet is approximately 2 billion cars, it is impossible for Tesla to build electric cars fast enough to address the carbon crisis. By the same token, it means the market is enormous. Our true competition is not the small trickle of non-Tesla electric cars being produced, but rather the enormous flood of gasoline cars pouring out of the world’s factories every day.

We believe that Tesla, other companies making electric cars, and the world would all benefit from a common, rapidly-evolving technology platform.

Technology leadership is not defined by patents, which history has repeatedly shown to be small protection indeed against a determined competitor, but rather by the ability of a company to attract and motivate the world’s most talented engineers. We believe that applying the open source philosophy to our patents will strengthen rather than diminish Tesla’s position in this regard.

Philadelphia man, 89, held over Auschwitz murders

An 89-year-old Philadelphia man who was a Nazi guard at the Auschwitz concentration camps has been detained for possible extradition to Germany on charges of aiding the extermination of more than 200,000 Jews during World War II.

Johann "Hans" Breyer, a retired toolmaker and a U.S. citizen, was arrested Tuesday at his home and ordered held without bail Wednesday pending an extradition hearing in August. His attorney argued unsuccessfully that Breyer is too frail to be held, telling the federal magistrate he "is not a threat to anyone."

A court in the Bavarian town of Weiden, where Breyer lived before coming to the United States more than 50 years ago, charged him with complicity in the murders of 158 trainloads of prisoners hauled from Hungary, Germany and Czechoslovakia to the death camp in occupied Poland between May 1944 and October 1944.

He has admitted being a perimeter guard at Auschwitz I, a camp where slave laborers were held and where Josef Mengele conducted inhumane experiments on prisoners. But he denied working at Auschwitz II, more commonly known as Birkenau, where an estimated 1.5 million Jews were systematically murdered.

"I didn't kill anybody, I didn't rape anybody," Breyer told the Associated Press in a 2012 interview from his home. "I didn't do anything wrong."

He did acknowledge being aware of the killing going on inside, but he was not a witness. "We could only see the outside, the gates," Breyer said.

Throughout the 1990s, the U.S. Justice Department tried to deport Breyer and strip him of his citizenship, but in 2003 a court ruled he could remain here because he had enlisted in the SS at age 17 and was not legally culpable for any of the atrocities.

Breyer was born in 1925 in what was Czechoslovakia. His mother was a Philadelphia native who later moved to Europe, where she married a German.

“I was curious if I could care about (money) on some fundamental level, and I couldn’t,” she told Fast Company in an interview that ran in the magazine's May edition, explaining why she gave up lucrative gigs to join her family’s philanthropic foundation.

Comparing her experience to the average millennial, the 34-year-old former first daughter defended jumping around to different careers — from consulting to a hedge fund to academia to journalism — before finding her true calling working with her parents.

“It is frustrating, because who wants to grow up and follow their parents? I’ve tried really hard to care about things that were very different from my parents … it’s a funny thing to realize I feel called to this work, both as a daughter and also as someone who believes I have contributions to make,” she continued about her reluctant status as a boomerang kid.

The Clinton name likely opened doors for the political heiress, including an eye-popping $600,000 annual salary for an irregular stint as an NBC special correspondent, but Chelsea insists her work speaks for itself.

“I will just always work harder (than anybody else) and hopefully perform better,” said Clinton, who along with former banker husband Marc Mezvinsky, purchased a $10.5-million Gramercy Park apartment in 2013. “And hopefully, over time, I preempt and erase whatever expectations people have of me not having a good work ethic, or not being smart, or not being motivated.”

This attitude always reminds me of that scene from The Aviator when they are at Hepburn's family's mansion for a dinner party:

Gotta take back a bit of the criticism there, the full quote is actually:

Fan Urinates Into Own Mouth During Metal Show, Which Is Apparently a Trend in Australia

A few weeks ago, a metal fan became the star of that side of the Internet by urinating into his own mouth amidst of a Trash Talk gig in Melbourne, Australia.

As expected, the crowd was caught in a state of shock. The photo had initially surfaced on Reddit and had everyone wondering why on Earth would anyone do that.

"It went everywhere, all down his shirt and in his hair, he seriously went for like a solid minute," one of the witnesses said. "It was feral. And yes he just went on like nothing happened afterwards, it was one of the funniest/strangest/most disgusting and confusing things I've ever seen in my life."

But the worst part is, urinating into own mouth is apparently a thing among skaters in Australia. As Vice reports, the disturbing phenomenon even has a name - bubbling.

And according to skater Troy West, the trend has further been spread from Australia to Europe through his own skating tours. "It's huge in Australia. It's part of our everyday life. My dad actually taught me how to do it when I was a kid," he said.

"I was on tour in Austria, and this other skater, Frido, asked me if I would drink my own p-ss for $136. So I explained that it's common practice in Oz, and I did it right there and then, and then again later by some lake in Italy. It took Frido a few days to master the art, though - he had a weak flow," Troy added.

The point of the whole thing? "Skaters like to provoke reactions from laymen, I guess."

Man has heart ripped from chest and eaten after fight about noodles

SUIZHOU, China, June 30 (UPI) --
A Chinese man was killed when his throat was slit and his still-beating heart was pulled out of his chest following a fight about noodles.


Bo Tuan allegedly carried out the brutal attack on Yul Liao because the victim turned down Tuan's request to share a bowl of noodles.


The 29-year-old and Liao began arguing and then Tuan allegedly pulled out a knife.


Tuan then allegedly slit the 48-year-old's throat and continued to brutalize his body.


"It was bloody and horrifying and I can't get the images out of my mind. He sliced the man open like he was a bag of rice, and pulled his heart out in front of us all, I swear it was still beating," an eyewitness told the Daily Mirror. "Several people fainted; I wish I could have fainted. I can't stop seeing it even when I close my eyes."


After Tuan had the heart in his hands, he began taking occasional bites out of it while wandering around outside the noodle shop.


When officers arrived 40 minutes later, Tuan did not fight or resist while being taken into custody.
