yeah you have to have offsides, like in hockey. But why does "even" have to be offsides? I never understood that in soccer.Heathen wrote:Without offsides you'd have players just waiting in the box for long passes and it would make the game stereotypical and boring.Fuck You Jobu wrote:Yeah I don't understand why offsides is needed in soccer. That may cut down on ties and wouldn't be as much of a crapshoot as PK's.
Can someone explain how offsides helps here?

Do you mean being on the same line as the defender? Because that's not offside.worldwithyourheart wrote:yeah you have to have offsides, like in hockey. But why does "even" have to be offsides? My Facebook has been lit up with people hating off-sides. Like the world should change a 166-year-old rule to appease Americans.

yeah I just looked it up holy shit that was just after I stopped playing any real organized soccer. 24 years ago! I've been yelling at the TV for years, saying "he's offside!!"

Pretty dull set of matches this evening in France's group. Haven't seen any of the Argentina game but it sounded like a good one.
USA-Germany and Portugal-Ghana should hopefully finish off the group stages with a bang. All to play for in that group and the previous matches have been some of the most exciting so far. Can't wait!

Yeah I put in today for a half day tomorrow, I was gonna tape it but I have to see this live. I didnt get into soccer until the 06 World Cup, so I feel like my 8 years of watching the US national team has all led up to tomorrow.

Re: The Beautiful Game (The All Inclusive Soccer Thread)
Top three players in distance covered after 2 matches:
Matt McKay (AUS) 16.15 miles
Michael Bradley (USA) 15.47 miles
Victor Fayzulin (RUS) 14.85 miles
Next closest American is Beckerman (13.60 miles).
Baldy is covering a lot of ground and playing in an unnatural attacking position. Here's hoping he can put together a decent enough performance tomorrow to help the team to at least a draw.

I actually thought he was very good in the first half of the Portugal game, and was the main reason they held possession as much as they did.

That's unless USA and Germany realize they both just need a draw.Evvo wrote:USA-Germany and Portugal-Ghana should hopefully finish off the group stages with a bang. All to play for in that group and the previous matches have been some of the most exciting so far. Can't wait!

He's been solid without setting the world alight and can pick a good pass, just a shame about the error late on against Portugal.verb_to_trust wrote:NoEvvo wrote:He's played well so far, in my opinion.
