thanks. i was driving home and those clouds looked like a Turner painting so i ran in the house and grabbed my camera and headed to the nearest beach. Wish i would have thought to bring my tripod though so i could have shot at a lower ISO.

Zeb you've got a knack for shooting the public. I'm way too self conscious to do approach people like that. How do you go about it? Do you just point the camera in their direction and get their attention?

Finally ordered a decent IPS monitor. I've been imaging on a 10-year-old Dell TN monitor. It was getting to the point were I would image at home, then come to work (I have a Thunderbolt display here) and shake my head at the mess I had created.

Depends on the context. In some situations people feel comfortable, almost obliged, to pose for a photo. Other times you have to be more discreet.

I have had people say no to my requests. It is a big step (at least in terms of street photography) to put yourself in that position. Capturing humans is, I think, ultimately more rewarding than capturing landscapes or other still life, so the potential for rejection is worth it.

I agree completely. That's why I need to force myself to be more outgoing. Portraits and events are one thing because i'm paid to be there and it's expected that i'm going to be around taking people's photos....but they're also kind of boring and you don't often get to choose your setting.
