If the best of Lightning Bolt was a demo, and Pearl Jam were a unknown band in their twenties would it land them a major label contract?

I've heard great songs and albums by young unknown bands, that are better than LB, who are still without a label or any recognition. Record labels are purely about marketability of the artist, and nothing else. Talent comes second to image now days.
So, no. If PJ were 20 years younger, they'd remain a little unknown hack band. If that were the case, I wonder what real jobs they'd have now? Let's rank 'em.
