Agreed. This quote below speaks volumes about how ho-hum and bland they perceive the whole process:

Blah blah blah...

In other words . Stone is saying:

"We don't really give much shit about the whole thing. We spread it out over many months and years, because we don't like it. But we know we have to do it, so we just take the most normal, easy approach we can think of. Then Brendan finishes everything so we don't have to"

We got the same basic response from Ed in one of the LB interviews when he talked about how glad he was to finally get all the lyrics written. It was like some work task that he had to get through to earn his paycheck.

"low-fi", or just not over-produced, or just modestly-produced sound. the modesty has been lost and the guitars barely sound like guitars anymore. who cares if you're playing a telecaster if it sounds like a laser?

To achieve this, all they have to do is record everything themselves as demos without a producer.

The thing that confuses me about BO'B is that Vitalogy and No Code are rough and ready. They sound like they captured a moment in time. Even Yield has a nice organic feel to it. So when did he turn into the Phil Spector of rock? It's crazy how over-produced and glossy the last two albums have been.

I think the point with the previous Neil Young reference was to suggest a willingness to consider new approaches, sounds, arrangements, etc..., even if they ultimately fail. The point was not necessariliy that Pearl Jam should sound like Neil Young or emulate/imitate his arrangements.

Id listen to a whole album of 'Sleeping by Myself' at this point and be satisfied. They can throw in 'Yellow Moon' type songs when they feel like it.

Listen to EdVed solo album instead. Personally i'm pretty sick of all Ed's solo efforts via band. A bunch of Vedders songs could've been easily saved for his solo work.

I didn't like his solo album, since it was just Eddie and a ukulele. I really liked the Lightning Bolt version of Sleeping by Myself with the full band and harmonies. I thought Eddie sounded his best on that (And infallible for some reason.)

The thing is I feel like Eddie's trying to do things his voice just can't anymore, and the result sucks. Why not just do something he's good at and settle for making great music in that style? His voice just lost its pleasant quality somehow on all of the bigger songs.
