Im sure it's fine. Japanese Leagues aren't known to allow guys to throw a trillion pitches or anything.

Speaking of hijacking accounts, did Bill James just post as @peternclarke on Twitter in response to a Deadspin article?

Well, the Red Sox have officially thrown in the towel. I say see what Lester and Lackey can bring back.

I don't know how much of that stuff I believe, they were basically inactive all offseason, making a push for Abreu doesn't jive much with everything else they did.

I suspect that Ricketts will throw a lot of money at Lester for him to pitch for the Cubs.

I just feel like this is Lester's peak, he's never had an arm injury, and I think a long term deal will be regretted by whomever he gets it from.

So you're saying Dave Dombrowski will be all over Lester this off season.

Giving long term deals to free agents is something Dombrowski has never done much of. Im not sure I can think of a single one.

No, but overpaying pitchers whose best bodies of work are obviously behind them when he doesn't have to is his thing. Remember our conversation about signing Verlander to that ridiculous extension?

Yeah, but ultimately that was something he had to do. I don't think so much that he was signed as a pitcher, as much as he was a "face of the franchise" type thing. He was a guy DD couldn't afford to let walk. The sudden decline is the greater concern, and I dont think anyone could foresee what's gone on this season. And Sanchez for 5 years, which I hated, looks great so far... and he hasn't budged on Scherzer beyond the original offer. Unfortunately in todays MLB if you want to keep a guy for 3 years, you basically HAVE to sign him for 7- because if you don't, someone else will.

You also have to consider that the Tigers are working with a pretty narrow window of contention right now. Let's say they have 3 or so years to contend before some of their veteran players really start to break down... letting Verlander walk significantly reduces the chances of winning within that timeframe. The extension was an easily defensible move because a chance at a World Series in the next couple years is worth the risk that the contract will hurt them in a few years.

Lester to the Cubs (or any NL team) would be a great fit. Really hoping the Red Sox let him walk and my Rangers go after him.

Why would you want another long term potentially awful contract? You already took on Prince Fielder and you're trying to deal Andrus
