It's an inspired choice and a very stip pick (meaning most people hate it : ). Those who weren't around to witness the phenomenon of Beverly Hill Cop in person could really never understand how iconic (credit to whomever said that) the song was. It was more than a song, it stood for an entire cultural shift. (I won't get into this here, but the cultural shift had something to do with black culture becoming synonymous with mainstream culture -- or at least aspects of it. This was a marked change from previous generations and its impact continues to reverberate At the time, the funniest and coolest actor was Eddie Murphy, the two best musicians were Prince and Michael Jackson, the NBA was exploding in popularity and so on and so forth.) At the time, the song sounded so modern, so futuristic, so cutting edge. Of course, it quickly became the sonic equivalent of a Nagel painting. (I adore Fletch, but the soundtrack -- also done by Faltermeyer -- is a direct ripoff of BHC that sounds pretty hilarious today. There were scads of soundalike soundtracks, all/most of them done by Faltermeyer.) Anyway, I dug the tune at the time. That song along with my Mumford T-shirt (yep, I had one) made me feel like Eddie Murphy Jr.

Today, however, it's not a song that really holds up for me as a song, meaning something that I listen to for pleasure and enjoyment. Yes, it's totally '80s, but it didn't age well. In fact, it went from cool to played out in its own time. In 2014, it doesn't do a lot for me. So, while I wouldn't sit around listening to it and feeling nostalgic or discovering something new, it's an inspired choice, one that could have only come from Stip. Well, that was probably the most I've ever thought about the Axel F. theme song.

I almost went with the BTTF soundtrack... Probay should have.

No long diatribe regarding who I voted for... I just liked these better.

Except BiH... A Yoko pick is a pick against 'Murcia

If we go back and do this the lament way (which sounds cool) more than a few of these are on my list

Now that you mention it, I considered lovesong as well. I was actually going to take boys don't cry until I looked it up and it was 70s.

I had the Top Gun soundtrack on tape. I think the summer of '86 was Top Gun, 5150, Heart, Back In The High Life and High N Dry.
