If all the celtics end up with is a million late first round picks, is it that genius of a plan?

Of course not. But the recent trade and other moves mean the C's could have as little as $21 million committed to the 2015-16 season. So, it's more about the combination of freeing up money to splurge on two free agents, drafting smartly, trading some picks for other assets, etc. There have been some gems in the mid-late first round.

I have good confidence in Ainge's ability to draft smartly, the problem to me is there is no Pierce this time. Rondo isnt a player you can build a team around, before they had Pierce and just needed the guys to complement him. This time they need everything.

I hope I get tickets to the first Cavs/Heat game so I can stand and cheer loudly to thank that man for the last 4 years.

I wouldn't be shocked to see an immature reaction before that game. You are a good basketball man but I've always felt like there are a lot of fair weather fans down there.

That team was built around KG, who altered the game on both sides of the floor. Pierce and Allen complemented KG. The only untouchable and "irreplaceable" player on that team was KG.

I still think that Rondo, plus two TBD marque talents is a solid base with potential. However, if Rondo insists on a max deal, I would trade him and trust that Smart is the real deal.

The thing that bothers me about giving up on Rondo is that 1. He can play in Boston and deal with the crap that comes with it and 2. He wants to be in Boston, a place that is not necessarily a strong "destination" city for NBA talent.

Its to the point that every draft pick and free agent signing is considered a failure unless the team is immediately going to win a championship.

When does the next bargaining session between owners and players happen? I think the NBA is ripe for change in regards to free agents, trades, etc.
