Dimejinky, how is Israel supposed to respond to a group that has it in writing to destroy Israel? If this was your country, would you accept random rockets being shot at your civilian neighbors by a nation that has declared war on you?
The tragedy is that Israël is occupying land that is not theirs. Has never been theirs. And should never be theirs. And by occupying I mean both going and live there (colonists on the West Bank) and occupying as in shutting it down and controlling everything that goes on in it. Controlling electricity, water supply, food supply, medical supply, ... Gaza is a huge open air prison. That is the root of all evil that happens. Everything that follows, can be argued by 'yes, but he did that' and 'yes but he started that'. If you do not understand that this occupation leads to people organizing resistance, compare it to World War II (oh the irony): De Gaulle in France did not want to surrender to a foreign country occupying his land like Vichy even if that country might have not made life that hard for the French people. He called up for resistance.
I'm not saying Hamas are doing the right thing. Violence is never right. It's not right and they have learned by now that Israel will react to any stone thrown in their direction by killing 100s of Palestinians. But what do you want them do do? There's absolutely zero support from the international community. And whether they live 10 years in peace or not, the result is the same: Gaza remains a cage. And there's been enough studies and evidence how animal's/people's behavious responds to being locked in a cage. And the sad truth is: lots of those killed Palestinian kids (because there are lots of children being killed) will lead to its parents evolving from possible peaceful people to extremists who want revenge. It's very hard to be the opposite.
Death toll: 121-0. People saying they're only defending themselves do not have any moral compass. It's a simple genocide. And only because of the mighty Jewish lobby noone has the guts to do anything about it.
I've been to Israel & Palestine (West Bank) last year. I've seen Hebron. Spoken to people there. Don't let anyone fool you that Israeli's live everyday in fear of terror. Tel Aviv is a party city. Hebron is a war zone. Every day. And Israel knows damn well that with every new home they build in Hebron or anywhere else on the West Bank, they send the message out 'we do not want a solution for this situation, we want this land and the Palestinian people can go fuck themselves'. That's why Israel needs Hamas and will continue to talk about Hamas day and night. As long as they can pretend and lead people to believe Hamas is evil, they don't need to talk about peace and a possible 2-state solution, because let's be honest: they absolutely do not want that.
Anyway, I've met some awesome Israeli people as well, peaceful, and I'm sure there's many of them, and I'm absolutely not against an Israel state. So I really hope one day a solution comes. But I'm not sure it will come with people like Netanyahu in power who continue to build on the West Bank.
