Can I get a volunteer going forward for the rest of the 80s to close the rounds 48 hours after they go up, tally the results, and make the big post for the next round? I can update the main page.

8. John Lennon- Watching The Wheels
9. Ah-Ha - Take On me
10. The Who - Eminence Front
Take On Me screams 80s, so I was glad to see that picked. I like Let My Love and Blister, but otherwise there isn't much this time around I like that much. The bottom of the numbers teams for me.
vs.
I Got Bugs
1. Public Enemy - Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos
2. David Bowie - Modern Love
3. Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out
4. Bob Marley - Redemption Song
5. Guns 'N Roses - Rocket Queen
6. Beastie Boys - 3 Minute Rule
7. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - You Got Lucky
8. Hall N Oates - Maneater
9. Metallica - Fade To Black
10. Blue oyster cult - burnin for you
Steppin out is a cool song, and I love Fade to black. Maneater gets Take On Me 80s points.
Voting for Bugs, but there were two of the teams I was less into this time.
6. Lament vs. Iholdthepain
Lament
1. Public Enemy - Fight The Power
2. Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five - The Message
3. The Jam - Going Underground
4. The Clash - Straight To Hell
5. Time Zone - Word Destruction
6. N.W.A. - Straight Outa Compton
7. McCarthy - Red Sleeping Beauty
8. The Specials - Ghost Town
9. Simple Minds - I Travel
10. Sinead O'Conner - Jerusalem
I like the political theme in here. No songs I love, though. A lot of stuff I heard for the first time, though, which was cool.
vs.
Iholdthepain
1. Blondie - Rapture
2. Madonna - La Isla Bonita
3. Michael Jackson - Thriller
4. The Cure - A Night Like This
5. Guns' N Roses - Welcome To The Jungle
6. Public Enemy - Bring The Noise
7. Beastie Boys - (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right To Party
8. Nine Inch Nails - Down In It
9. Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard - Pancho and Lefty
10. Pink Floyd - Learning To Fly
Odd choice for the one madonna song. Thriller and Welcome to the Jungle are tremendous. I thought about drafting Head Like A Hold. There are better songs on Pretty Hate Machine, but it's still good. Learning to Fly is one of the few Pink Floyd songs I like,
Voting for IHTP (I think this is my first vote against Lament and Numbers this whole tournament)
7. Pryto vs. Knee Tunes
Pryto
1. Michael Jackson - Human Nature
2. Nirvana - About A Girl
3. Beastie Boys B-Boy Bouillabaisse
4. The Stone Roses - Waterfall
5. Guns 'N Roses - It's So Easy
6. Bruce Springsteen - Atlantic City
7. The Cure - Just Like Heaven
8. Prince - Starfish and Coffee
9. The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
10. The Stray Cats -- Stray Cat Strut
a number of strong songs here, especially just like heaven, about a girl, human nature, and Atlantic city. The stray cats annoy me a little bit, but not enough to overlook the rest of the team. This could be the strongest team in this bracket.
vs.
Knee Tunes
1. Robert Plant - Big Log
2. Queen & David Bowie - Under Pressure
3. Traveling Wilburys - Handle with Care
4. Terence Trent D'Arby - Wishing Well
5. Billy Squier--In the Dark
6. The Who - Don't Let Go The Coat
7. Sugarhill Gang - Apache (Jump On It)
8. Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
9. The Rollings Stones--Undercover of the Night
10. Jane's Addiction - Jane Says
Under Pressure was almost a first round pick. Otherwise this is one of the most 80s of all the teams, but I liked Bada's 80s slant a bit more.
Vote for Pryto
8. Kaius vs. Stip
Kaius
1. Prince - Free
2. The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?
3. Beastie Boys - No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn
4. Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again
5. Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)
6. Ministry -Stigmata
7. The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
8. Another Sunny Day - You Should All Be Murdered
9. R.E.M. - Shaking Through
10. Sonic Youth - Teenage Riot
Big fan of the first two picks, and REM. And the Simple Minds songs was another 'thank god someone took this' song. The pogues/ministry combo didn't do much for me. Another Sunny Day - You Should All Be Murdered is maybe my favorite band/song title combo ever.

If you're a fan of straightforward rock with zero frills (and amazing guitar playing), you should dig into these guys a bit more. Two things. 1) They were from Long Island, but launched their career from the UK, where they were part of the punk and new wave scenes coming out of there at the time. 2) Maybe because of this, their pre-fame material has a real punk edge to it, including some edges that were later sanded off. Check out this ferocious tune about the Iranian hostage crisis. Sounds closer to peer acts like the Clash than it does Sexy and 17. Not exactly the sort of thing one might associate with these, em, cats.stip wrote: The stray cats annoy me a little bit
Their first two albums (UK only) were compiled into a single disc, Built for Speed, that became their US debut. This sort of material was relegated to the dustbin. Too bad, but there are some insanely great live shows from the UK circa 1981 on YouTube. Highly recommended!

i think Stray Cats was a phenomenal pick. The first Stray Cats LP was my first ever purchase with my own money back in the day when it was released. They were huge in Finland 1981-1982, and they got their careers first gold record from Finland 1981.PryTo wrote:If you're a fan of straightforward rock with zero frills (and amazing guitar playing), you should dig into these guys a bit more. To be fair I only know the hits so maybe I should dig further. Out of curiosity, what famous bands/artists do you find overrated/ don't have something good to say about? That's not a loaded questionPryTo wrote:If you're a fan of straightforward rock with zero frills (and amazing guitar playing), you should dig into these guys a bit more. D'ya think I'll get points for not choosing an artist that anybody else chose? ( I mean except for I think Numbers it was who chose the Who way after me)
