It's interesting that fox sports is so prominent in San Diego and yet they leave out Gwynn completely.

Baseball being baseball they will make some stupid award and name it after him next year or do some video package.

Here's the thing guys. I am totally okay with not honoring Gwynn, Zimmer, etc.

As the sport has gotten larger and larger there are more and more stars, more and more "guys that have been around forever" and just more names you know. You can't keep going out of your way to honor them every single year. I like that MLB made a decision that they didn't want to leave anyone out, so they just passed on doing it all together... and the ESPYs the following night is a great example of why. The tribute to those that died this year included 3 NFL owners... and they didn't include William Clay Ford (who had owned the team longer than any of the other owners who died), which has Detroit complaining quite a bit. As more and more people die, these tributes are either going to get insanely long or people are going to be outraged when someone gets left out.

I hope MLB sticks to their guns and doesn't do these tributes to those that died going forward- and that everyone follows suit.

No question. But Jeter was alive and at the game- his last one. He is the only guaranteed hall of famer playing. Of course they'll fawn over him, especially given the #eastcoastbias factor. And trust me, i couldn't stand the Jeter love. But why is fawning over a guy playing in the game being equated to honoring one who died? Instead of the Jeter love I would have preferred talking for 5 minutes about Scott Kazmir, or Pat Neshek. Or Freddie Freemans awful glasses. Something in the game, not a prepacked death package that is only going to grow year after year.
