so i remember liking The Con, so I decided to check out Tegan and Sara's latest album. what a turgid piece of shit.

I think it's a fucking great album, and succeeds completely in what it sets out to be: a series of catchy, hooky, synth-heavy pop tracks that emphasize melody over melodrama. It's an 80s New Wave pastiche that works because they're such gifted songwriters.

i agree that it succeeds in what it sets out to be, but i'm not sure it has the noblest of intentions. It seems a day late to the synth pop party, and a far too conventional and safe attempt at it.

Maybe. I really like it. I think it's a super fun album, and I'm glad that it's doing so well. I think T&S have been very candid about their reasons behind making such an accessible album at this point in their careers, but I think they work really well in this genre.

That said, some of my favorite T&S songs have a certain murkiness to them that I miss. Hopefully the next album is able to blend both approaches, like they do in this recent live version of one of my favorite songs from "The Con":

yeah thats a good one. I havent heard Sainthood, yet. maybe that on is more my speed.
