It sadly looks like the few starts Chris Sale missed are gonna keep us from seeing one of the all-time great battle for the Cy Young Award down the stretch. Those extra starts are more or less the only different between them at this point.

Oh well. Jose Abreu will probably win Rookie of the Year. He's hitting .322 with fifteen homers since he came back from the DL (he hit .260 with fifteen homers before it). Nice to see him getting better and better as the year goes on.

Yankee stadium pisses me off to no end, even when the Jays aren't losing games on what should be routine fly balls to right. There should at least be some kind of minimum dimensions for new fields. I started playing in a field with a deeper right field when I was 14.

its not the dimensions so much as the jet stream, RF power alley is actually deeper than PNC
and, thats bad broadcasting, Ichiro wasnt jammed at all, he hit that pretty good.

A very very very very small tiny microscopic part of me wishes he would be traded to a true contender so he can taste the postseason before his arm falls off someday.

Seattle is close though. They should pull the trigger on this rumored Price & Zobrist for a shit ton of prospects deal. Even if they don't make it to the playoffs this year next year they'd have a great shot. Price and Zobrist both under contract for next year.

im pretty sure MLB does have some loose rules about dimensions, i know theres one for the distance behind home plate to the backstop

Ive always found it funny how people bitch about Miller Park being so hitter friendly. the RF/LF lines are 30+ feet deeper than old County Stadium. Its not the dimensions its just balls fly out of there during perfect conditions.

Sale has been incredible (leads AL pitchers in WAR, was leading in ERA and WHIP last I checked and has ONE loss) but I agree with you. He would have to be lights out his last what 11-12 starts to have a shot. Ridiculous he needed the fan vote to make the ASG.

The league will adjust to Abreu. He still has a ton to learn but I'm glad he is getting better though I love watching the kid hit. Light tower power. My Cuban/White Sox fan GF loves him. I wish my Rangers would have signed him and DH'd him.

Part of me was worried when his average was so low for the first two months of the season and he was already being as celebrated as he was that he would just settle into that role and be one of those guys who hits .240 with 35 homers. But it looks like Adam Dunn isn't rubbing off on him like I was afraid he would.

Eight shut out innings with 12 strike outs for Sale tonight. He's now 10-1 and his ERA and WHIP are down to 1.88 and 0.86 respectively. His only loss of record was the game against Detroit where he gave up one earned run in seven innings. This guy is just incredible.

I understand the nature of draft picks and prospects and such, so I don't blame this kind of thing on the GM or anything like that (especially since each team has dozens of examples) but it saddens me that the guy through Jays selected one pick (or maybe it was two?) before Sale was just traded for cash considerations.

What are you talking about he has one of the worst ERAs in the league!

He hasnt been great, but I never felt like he was costing them games, more often than not he pitched well enough to keep them in the game and/or win. I was just saying he's not terrible, he'll probably do better in the NL West(PacBell is considered a pitcher's park, right?) and it's not like the Giants are expecting him to carry their rotation.

I cannot stress enough how much I liked Peavy, I know his numbers werent very good here, but I loved the friggen guy. That being said, the fact that they were able to secure what is supposedly a legitimate pitching prospect at AAA for him is pretty surprising.

Peavy was damn good in the NL. Not a bad pick up for SF. They needed SP help with the Cain injury. Peavy is a 2 pitch/flyball pitcher. He belongs in the NL and a pitchers park.

But stupid for the Giants to include Edwin Escobar in that trade. Ummm what? Your second best prospect for a #4 starter at best? Escobar was taken in the Rule 5 draft from the Rangers. He hasn't been that great this year in AAA but he has a fantastic arm (left handed, throws pretty hard, good changeup, decent slider) and could be a middle of the rotation starter. Escobar had a great year last year and won't even be 23 until next April. I forget the other kid the Sox got but he had good numbers in his cup of coffee last year and is a good bullpen prospect. Good trade for the Sox.

Like the Rangers I wonder if the Red Sox are hoarding prospects to try and get David Price this winter if he isn't traded at the deadline. Sox could offer a package like Owens/Swihart/Deven Marrero/Ranaudo OR Barnes OR Escobar would get the job done in that trade I think and the Sox would still have a solid farm system.

one time, many many many years ago at old County Stadium during dollar dog night, I was standing in a ridiculous line for the dollar dogs behind the bleachers (in the stadium but behind the bleachers) when a car was making its way out of the stadium causing the lines to part. My friend jokingly says "who the hell does this guy think he is cutting a car through the hot dog line? as I notice a hand hangen out the passenger window giving 5's. I don't think this is an AL/NL thing. He was in his prime with the Padres, and he put up some very good numbers with the White Sox. I think the issue is more that he's a 33 year old flyball pitcher with declining stuff throwing in one of the most extreme hitters parks in baseball. That's not a good combination.
