If this somehow makes it back to me over the next few hours while I'm asleep, I'll catch up in the morning.

Most of my picks reflect what I was actually listening to in the 90's - for a couple of years it was Nirvana and nothing else, then I started raiding my brother's record collection for things like Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, RHCP and REM.durdencommatyler wrote:So fucking sexy! Waits, however, I didn't even know about until my musical tastes branched out in the 00's, but he's since become a top 5 artist for me. Sometimes it's a bit of a slog to get to the gems on his albums, but Bone Machine is a fantastic record pretty much from top to bottom.

I'm debating whether or not to take a waits song, since I didn't start listening to him until 2000. My tastes were pretty similar to yoursABNorman wrote:Most of my picks reflect what I was actually listening to in the 90's - for a couple of years it was Nirvana and nothing else, then I started raiding my brother's record collection for things like Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, RHCP and REM.durdencommatyler wrote:So fucking sexy! Say what you will about Courtney love but live through this is an excellent record and violet remains a monster of a song.durdencommatyler wrote:And here we have the were exact opposite of Hulk's pick.LetMeSleep wrote:Stip wrote:Hole - Violet

I thought the Celebrity Skin record was good, too. Some credit Corgan for that, but whatevs. Good songs are good songs. Caught 'em live on that tour and they brought it.

I grew up on the Courtney = Yoko = Evil bandwagon, but Live Through This and Celebrity Skin are both good records (though the hater in me wants to attribute the former to Cobain and the latter to Corgan).

I've always felt like hole songs were cobains cast offs in the way that ringos solo stuff were John and George's cast offs.

Kurt Cobain didn't write many bad songs.stip wrote:Say what you will about Courtney love but live through this is an excellent record and violet remains a monster of a song.durdencommatyler wrote:And here we have the were exact opposite of Hulk's pick.LetMeSleep wrote:Stip wrote:Hole - Violet

Re: Best Decade Tournament - 90s: Knee tunes
Of course I'm being a bit of a "drama queen" as the kids are so fond of saying these days. The presence of a Hole song won't mage me totally discount a team. But yeah I really hate Courtney Love. More than that though, I just don't think Hole were a good band.
