If it's the same pick that you sent me just do it as she can't pick that anyway. I wish I'd realized that earlier.

I think so. My list is home. Let's just say yes
So we officially do the "if you have been skipped once then your limit goes down to 2 hours" thing?

Depends. But TD is here so it won't matter hopefully.

edit: for clarification's sake, that means I can't guarantee I will be here in 3 hours but if Bundy picks now I got this

By the mid 1990s, rap was pretty evenly split between the old-school East Coast sounds (think Public Enemy) and the West Coast gangsta rap (N.W.A. and their offspring). Southern rap groups like Houston’s the Geto Boys didn’t really offer anything new, but a revolution was brewing in the region. Nowhere is this more clear than on the 1997 debut by the Hot Boys. The record, Get it How U Live, was an independent release that was sold at swap meets, mom and pop record shops, and out of car trunks. The Hot Boys’ label, Cash Money, had already released a slew of indie CDs this way. Everything released by the label was produced by a guy named Mannie Fresh. Without funds to pay for samples, Fresh programmed the beats and played every other instrument himself.

The Hot Boys debut was a collaboration between the label’s four artists, Juvenile, B.G., Turk, and a 14-year-old wunderkind named Lil Wayne. The label had some success with solo records from B.G. and Juvenile, but the Hot Boys debut was a massive hit for an indie label working out of a rented apartment. Allegedly, Get It How U Live sold 300,000 copies on the streets, numbers big enough to land the label a multi-million dollar distribution deal with Universal. They quickly issued solo records from the four rappers, with Juvenile, B.G., and Lil Wayne selling huge numbers and making superstars out of everyone involved. Cash Money got so huge that even the owners of the label (Baby and Birdman) put out records with some success. Sadly, B.G., my favorite of the four rappers, succumbed to heroin addiction and is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence. Many of you have undoubtedly heard his most famous song, “Bling Bling,” a term popularized by the group.

Cash Money, Mannie Fresh, Juvenile, and Lil Wayne followed the trajectory of most successful entities – they made a bunch of money and began to suck shortly thereafter. But Get It How U Live, made when all parties were young, hungry and had virtually zero ties to the mainstream music industry, remains one of the most amazing rap albums ever produced. The best part of it is the sound. Mannie Fresh basically threw rap’s rule book out the window and made music that sounded like nothing else out there. It’s still radical and different today. The second best part are the rappers, who sound nothing like the guys coming out of New York, L.A., or anywhere else for that matter. This is rap music made by and for guys from New Orleans, and their dialect is so thick and heavy, it’s nearly impossible to understand at time. The record is packed with inside jokes and slang that only people from the poor neighborhoods of new Orleans would understand. To cite one example, the rappers referring to each other as “Wardie,” denoting their residence in the ninth ward of New Orleans. This sort of thing was the musical equivalent of an exclusive, secret club.

For all of the reasons mentioned above, this is one of my favorite tracks from Get It How U Live. Remember that every musical sound you’re hearing except for the drum machine came from the hands of Mannie Fresh. He played bass, keyboards, guitar, and a variety of gongs, whistles, woodblocks, bells, and a bunch of things many of us probably wouldn’t recognize. Meanwhile, the rappers tag-team at light speed and bounce off one another like verbal pinball machines. The topics they covered were nothing especially new or innovative, but they were speaking an entirely new language, one that would eventually give the South a permanent spot on the rap map.
