Peavy was damn good in the NL. Not a bad pick up for SF. They needed SP help with the Cain injury. Peavy is a 2 pitch/flyball pitcher. He belongs in the NL and a pitchers park.

But stupid for the Giants to include Edwin Escobar in that trade. Ummm what? Your second best prospect for a #4 starter at best? Escobar was taken in the Rule 5 draft from the Rangers. He hasn't been that great this year in AAA but he has a fantastic arm (left handed, throws pretty hard, good changeup, decent slider) and could be a middle of the rotation starter. Escobar had a great year last year and won't even be 23 until next April. I forget the other kid the Sox got but he had good numbers in his cup of coffee last year and is a good bullpen prospect. Good trade for the Sox.

Like the Rangers I wonder if the Red Sox are hoarding prospects to try and get David Price this winter if he isn't traded at the deadline. Sox could offer a package like Owens/Swihart/Deven Marrero/Ranaudo OR Barnes OR Escobar would get the job done in that trade I think and the Sox would still have a solid farm system.

I don't think this is an AL/NL thing. He was in his prime with the Padres, and he put up some very good numbers with the White Sox. I think the issue is more that he's a 33 year old flyball pitcher with declining stuff throwing in one of the most extreme hitters parks in baseball. That's not a good combination.

Are you calling Fenway a hitters park or Pac Bell? Because SF plays in a pitcher's paradise. Now he gets to pitch in Pac Bell, Petco, Dodger, Citi, Busch and Turner and not Fenway, Yankee, Rogers, etc. I don't think Peavy will be dominant or anything but he can be a solid pick up/inning eater. Which SF needs right now.

Peavy still has some quality as a back end of the rotation starter. Obviously not a 1 or 2 anymore. It's also a move SF had to make but they probably could have had him for much less. It's a good trade for Boston. I could see Escobar in their rotation next year and Hembree in their bullpen.

One can argue that is correct if viewed from a mathematical perspective. The term "less than" is used, not "fewer than." <1000 walks.

Peavy's numbers didn't get worse in the AL because AL hitters are better; they got worse because he went from a crazy pitchers' park in San Diego to an extreme hitters' park in Fenway and went from his mid-20s to his early-mid-30s. He had no issue adjusting when he went to Chicago despite the injury issues.

I'm really just arguing against the "NL pitchers can't pitch in the AL" philosophy a lot of people adhere to, and it pisses me off because I hear it about the Jays all the time. R.A. Dickey didn't get worse because of the AL; he got worse because he started from an unbelievable high, is 39 years old and - shocker - now has homerun issues pitching in Toronto instead of Citi Field. Josh Johnson didn't get worse because of the AL; he got worse because he didn't throw a single pitch while he was healthy. Mark Buerhle didn't get worse because of the AL; he... well, he actually had one of the worst seasons of his career in Florida and is kind of awesome now.

That's about it for the rant, I guess. Basically, I'm frustrated with stupid Jays fans who don't want the team to add any pitcher from the NL. The only actual difference for pitchers is that they have to face the DH.

Dickey is an anomaly being a knuckleballer. Give it another year or two and the league will catch up to him probably and he will probably switch leagues. If you look at a lot of guys who historically don't overpower people they bounce around. One a league gets a good book on them they go to another league.

I love RA Dickey though. Happy for that dude that he is doing well but his ERA has jumped quite a bit in Toronto. Which is normal in the AL and he's in a hitters friendly park. When you swap out a pitcher for a guy who usually has power your era is going to naturally go up. As a Rangers fan I'm cool adding an NL pitcher as long as they can keep the ball down and get a K now and again otherwise they will get eaten up by the monster that is our ballpark. Take a guy like Cueto I think he'd do well in the AL. As would Tyson Ross, Gallardo, Jordan ZImmerman, Charlie Morton, Jorge De La Rosa, etc. There are plenty of pitchers in the AL who belong in the NL though due to how they pitch. Jeremy Guthrie, Phil Hughes, John Danks, Hutchinson for you guys, etc. I do think really highly of Stroman though. That kid has great stuff and keeps the ball down, can get a K, doesn't beat himself, etc.
