According to the spreadsheet that I use to keep details on my record collection, the copy of Steven Wilson's "Grace for Drowning" that I received this morning is my 300th record!

I haven't been keeping count, though I would guess I have something around 50-75 12" albums and singles, 5 or so 10" singles, and 35 or so 45s. My 45 covers are mostly in bad shape due to a leak that found its way there, but the records still work.

Realized that since I have headers on my Excel spreadsheet, this only makes it my 299th record! You would probably recognize his song "In the Sun" if you heard it, but he is a relative unknown. He painted the album cover. I saw him in Chicago a while back and he started looping all the guitar parts and then sang/painted during the rest of the song he created on the loop. It was pretty cool.

Re: The Vinyl Thread: Still Listen On Wax, Don't Use The CD
A girl from work gave me a stack of records the other day that she found in a 99 cent bin the other day, and I'm just getting around to listening to them since it's my day off. So far I've only listened to CSNY, but I plan on giving each one a spin this afternoon and reporting back periodically.
The records are:
American Dream - CSNY
Give Me The Night - George Benson
This Time - Al Jarreau
52nd Street - Billy Joel

My copy of Nanobots by They Might Be Giants just arrived in the mail a bit ago. I'm gonna be spinning that one shorty. Hearts, hearts everywhere!

Re: The Vinyl Thread: Still Listen On Wax, Don't Use The CD
So I got my first "bend in cover" record from Soundstage, and I'm pretty pleased: the sleeve was a little beat-up in the lower left-hand corner, but honestly it isn't that bad; plus, the record plays perfectly!kreng wrote:not bad at all. i don't remember which record but they emailed me saying that all copies of a specific record had a "bend in cover" and if i wanted to wait for them to get the new sleeves or if they should send it and then send the none bend sleeve free of charge later. i opted of course for the latter and it took me at least a good minute to even find the bend.Simple Torture wrote:Has anyone ever ordered anything off of Soundstagedirect.com that's listed as "Bend in Cover"? If so, how bad is the damage, really?
Some people eat their feelings...I am ordering records.
I just started dealing with Soundstage, and I must say that so far I'm pretty pleased. Since they do free shipping if you buy $30 or more, I pre-ordered a few records (new Iron and Wine, a Songs: Ohia repress) and added a few cheaper records to each order so that I qualified for free shipping. Soundstage re-organized the orders so that the pre-orders will ship together later, and the other stuff has arrived at my parents' house already!

I like ssd for the most part but they carry a lot of bootlegs and dubious pressings. Especially in their jazz selection they have at times up to 5-6 versions on the same album and they don't specify well which album is which pressing, they usually copy the same little text for all albums.

I did notice that they don't specify editions any further than saying something like "180 gram." I too would feel weary ordering something super-specific there.kreng wrote:I like ssd for the most part but they carry a lot of bootlegs and dubious pressings. Picked up original pressings of Never Mind The Bollocks and The Rolling Stones-Love You Live this afternoon. Both are in excellent condition... can't wait to spin them.
