Re: The Work-Out Thread
Hardly ever wake up sore after a workout anymore but did this morning. Feeling it in my triceps and calves in particular, but that's a good thing right?
One of these days this lingering cool weather will go away and I can start working up a sweat outside. I know you guys in New England and the Midwest would welcome highs in the 50s but not me.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
My running clothes stink.
I needs to do some laundry.
But I should talk about that in the laundry thread.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Hit the gym after a week off from all physical activity. No running. But did push-ups, planks and sit-ups in the sauna for an hour. It was empty the entire time, so I didn't feel like an idiot. Weighed myself before and was surprised to find I didn't gain any weight during the off time. Felt great to do something, anything. Zero chance of me running this weekend.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Another sauna workout. 200 push-ups, 6 sets of front and side planks and about 500 sit-ups. Spent about an hour total in there and it pretty much kicked my ass. The core work should help my coordination for running, which I may resume tomorrow. Talked to a former runner who basically blew up his right knee while running my favorite trail two years ago. He told me his name and it rang a bell. I looked it up when I got home and sure enough he qualified for the Olympic marathon trials twice. From running god to fighting a beer gut in just 2 years. Life's hard and I'm a pussy.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Was at the park testing out my new soccer ball that came in the mail today. A Nike blue high res ball, nothing super expensive but I spent 30 bucks on it plus shipping. I do some juggling with and and then start shooting. About the 4th or 5th shot in I hit a volley that smacks off the cross bar only something isn't right...instead of bouncing back to me it sort of just falls straight down. Turns out it was impaled by one of the exposed rungs the netting is hung from. And that was the end of that....R.I.P. new ball.

What a shitty deal. I'm just impressed you can shoot that hard.

thats what she said
so i am slowly losing again (not at the pace i was) but my clothing is getting looser, veins are popping in the forearms and i think the one that goes from the chest to the shoulder is slowly making its way
any other time i would have been so discouraged with topping out like this but have come to realize its not a bad thing and it will happen. i have a bit of a pain my left elbow that is from playing hoops and getting my arm caught going for a rebound so my strength on things like bench isnt where it should be so i take it easy.
im up to about 850 cals burned every day doing cardio and keeping my food under 1800cal
Did the Mother Fucker pay extra to yell?

Re: The Work-Out Thread
10 miles in 72 minutes
Hit the canals wearing my tight '70s-style running shorts and a jock strap under my running hat. The plan was if things were bouncing around too much, I would duck into the public restroom about 2 miles into my run. It was not needed as things settle in nicely. Took it easy on the way out and hit the turnaround in 37. Picked it up on the way back and finished in 72 minutes. No real finishing kick. Surprisingly fantastic run and the boys are fine.
Things got a little more serious as my friend wants me to take over his personal training business when he leaves for Saudi Arabia for 2 years (maybe longer) in July. It's mostly just bored, wealthy Scottsdale housewives, but I need to get into better shape. I can hardly be taken seriously with this little pudge I currently have.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
i didn't stop eating and drinking; i stopped running. my left leg was killing me. it was pretty clear that i was just hurting myself. instead of one day off, i took off one week, and went up to 175 lbs. i picked up with week 5, and it was discouraging, to say the least. 5 miles felt like an insurmountable distance. i was supposed to run 7 on saturday and only ran 5. yesterday i was scheduled for 14. i really didn't think i had a chance. i decided to go at 7 mph, and i did make it in 2 hours. today my left leg aches a bit, but it's not bad. it's nothing like when i ran 15 in 2 hours. so if i learned anything from this, it's that i need to take it a bit easier. the marathon is 3 months away. i don't have to be where i want to be tomorrow. hopefully week 6 is successful.daft twat wrote: week 4 should be nice, as the longest run is only 8 miles on sunday. so here's where i write something down to be accountable: starting today, i'm going to stop eating and drinking alcohol after dinner. i have run exactly 100 miles in the last 3 weeks, and i still weigh 173 lbs, which is what i weighed when i started. i nightly sabotage my training, and it's pissing me off. i'd like to get down to 160. i feel like dropping that weight is the only way my legs will feel better.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
I originally didn't want to say anything about the training plan you have selected. But the truth is, I'm not a huge fan. I would like to see more off days. I think you can get to where you want to be on 4 runs a week. 2 10-milers, a speedwork (mile repeats) day and a long run. I'm generally a believer in effort over miles. And this kind of regular training plan creates a rhythm. 3 runs a week are pretty much set in stone and your long run is all that changes. It's really easy to gauge progress this way. And you adjust the effort instead of the miles. For me, a father of 3 with shrinking balls, this kind of plan also brings a more balanced lifestyle. I get 3 full days off with the family. For ultra training, I will often do doubles (A.M./P.M. runs) to have more off days.daft twat wrote:i didn't stop eating and drinking; i stopped running. my left leg was killing me. it was pretty clear that i was just hurting myself. instead of one day off, i took off one week, and went up to 175 lbs. i picked up with week 5, and it was discouraging, to say the least.
For some people, this doesn't work. They like the idea of basically going to the gym or running everyday. They need to build fitness into their life everyday or risk getting off track.
Anyway, I just think 6 days a week is pretty crazy for a first marathon.
Good luck to you, sir. And I hope you have a good week of training.

Me fucking too! I hate it. It's like some kind of mental torture. And this has been such a windy winter. I'm sick of it.BDB wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:Yeah, it's windy. Yeah, it's snowing. Yeah, I'm still going for a run.

Only got in 7 miles. But I feel better for just having gotten out. Little nipple fatigue, but otherwise, good to go.
