You have no idea how often I have people in our general age range ask me some variation of "Oh God, you have to play NEW music at the club? That's so terrible. Music sucks these days!" It makes me want to punch them. And I'm not a violent person.
Curious how old you are and where you live?
I just turned thirty-three, and I live in Orlando now.
Not gonna lie, I have been that guy privately. I would never say something to a DJ. But I've left a bar/club because I couldn't stand the stuff they were spinning. But not specifically BECAUSE it was new. There's a lot of new shit I like. This was just awful.
Pretty sure I'd find most new music you'd hear in a club pretty repellent too.
I adore you, Spenno.

Maybe you guys are just going to the wrong clubs. The first time I'd heard a lot of amazing songs was at a club.

Well then, sir, you have borne witness to my lack of anything approaching rhythm.
When were you here though? I did the first six months of the night (July 2011-December 2011) before they moved me over to their Tampa club full-time, and then I took it over again when I came back in January of this year.

I may not have gotten to witness your moves.

:-(
I'm pretty sure I went once in late 2011, but it might've been early 2012. I'll just say it was 2011 so I can have an RM coincidence.

Probably the only time I've been in the same place as another RMer outside of a Pearl Jam show.

I feel so bad for what females in music have to go through.
My friend (girl) is the singer in a very good local rock band here. She gets a lot of shit. It's sickening.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

Lots of great discussion last several pages. Outside of the '00 tourney I'd love to see Lament's best singles of the last 15 years list.

Scan through the albums and picks the one or two songs that hit you immediately and make a 10-12 song 'best of' playlist inside of 10 minutes. In the past if you spent $20 on a CD you damn well listened to it 100 times and fell in love. There's no time for love now Dr Jones.
This is very true, and I will agree that it seems harder to find great albums today than it was 20 years ago. But I think the flip side is that it's easier to find great songs than it was 20 years ago.
My listening habits are still very much album oriented.

I should try to upload a playlist after the tournaments are over.

Oh, and Lament, you better hope I'm not picking before you because The Mother We Share is definitely a first rounder for me.

Ok - I've changed my list up, I'm ready for this thing now!
