I don't think he's wrong about Bay having an distinct, identifiable style. By the strictest definition, he is an auteur. But auteur doesn't automatically equal good. Bay's total shite. But at least he's a distinctive, stylistic shite.

It's something the thread touched once LV offered an opposing opinion, but I think that the legacy of the last fifteen years won't be that television was actually best during this period. The legacy will be that this was the period when television was discovered to be a worthwhile medium for talented people. The level of talent working in television right now is very high, writers, actors, and directors. Even if right now the four best shows of all time are not all on the air, there will never again be a time when there aren't multiple shows that are worth watching.
I think this specific era of the "Golden Age" is on the downturn because it may be hitting the same themes a little too often. How much have we heard the phrase "The world isn't black and white. It's shades of grey." or talked about anti-heroes and rooting for the badguy. They're basic elements of some of the best shows that people have identified and latched onto a little too much. The same ground is being covered.
