I love a good turn-your-mind-off Sci-Fi, but I've found most of the Marvel movies pretty mediocre. Is this one different enough to warrant a trip to the cinema?

I know a lot are going to disagree with me, but as someone who finds the Marvel movies very dull, I don't think this was really anything new or exciting. The comedic touch was appreciated, but not enough to outweigh all the tiresome Marvel BS.

this.

i just really liked the fact that it was extremely enjoyable despite the fact of never hearing about these Guardians before. never once did i think about the name Marvel being associated with this film.

That's because the script was originally written as a Dora the Explorer movie.

Of course. Otherwise it doesn't rhyme. Unless you're from Boston, I guess.

It is probably the one you'd have the easiest time enjoying, but it is still clearly within the boundaries of that universe. Just slightly more self-aware

I know that I'm a bad person but would it be way out of line to take my seven year old son to see this?

There is a little bit of cursing in it (I think they say "shit" a couple times) and a considerable amount of violence. I don't think it'll harm your child.

He loves space violence (Star Wars) so this puts my mind at ease.

I've often wondered how a father/son viewing of The Road would go down. Might save that until he is eight.
