It's not that, it's more that I'd recently read tons of Raymond Chandler and thought Ellroy would be a satisfying progression.

It's not like I viscerally hate the book or anything, it's just been kind of a thankless slog so far.

I think I'll stick with it for now and, once I've got through a few other books I've been waiting on starting, try Ellroy again and see if I have more luck.

There was one where I went back to Nic Cage's house, and we'd had a few drinks, we were playing pool and he accidentally knocked over his prehistoric cave bear skull and smashed it. And he was really upset about it, and the next day went and buried it in a field.

So I finished it. Glad I stuck it out, things picked up a bit through the last portion of the book. I'll give this Ellroy fellow another shot.

I read the Blue is the Warmest Color graphic novel last night. It was quite good, which made the movie seem even worse (and I already hated it).
