As for Bagwell I give him a pass on not having 500 which is the magic number for sluggers. He was having his best season ever during 94 (so add 20 homers there if not for the strike) and played the bulk (no pun intended) of his career in the Astrodome. What he has going for him is he was a good all around player and not just a slugger. He ran well (two 30-30 seasons), was a gold glove caliber first baseman and was right around .300 for his career. It's kind of alarming for his HoF case that his % of votes have gone down but I got to think he will get in down the road. He has a higher WAR all time than Joe DiMaggio, Robin Yount, Frank Thomas, Johnny Bench, Paul Molitor and Reggie Jackson. A higher OPS than Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. I find Bagwell to be incredibly underrated. Maybe he wasn't dominant (one MVP and two other top 5 MVP finishes) but a hall of famer I think.

He was very similar to Frank Thomas. I think Thomas was better but there are quite a few similarities there. Also, its creepy they have the same date of birth.

Bagwell is an absolute no-doubt Hall of Famer.

On baseball reference, Bagwell is the closest comparable they give to Frank Thomas. Thomas is a first ballot HOF'er and Bagwell(at this rate) is unlikely to get in. It's ludicrous.

The similarities to Bagwell and Frank Thomas are mind-boggling. Right down to their birth date. Thought Thomas is a better hitter than Bagwell it's safe to say Bags was the better all around player too. This is from a huge Big Hurt fan as well.

Eh I'm not sure about that. Bagwell looked pretty bad his last year. Couldn't catch up to a fastball. I see what you are saying though and I agree he could have gone to the AL at some point (like 2002ish) and his stats would look better.

If Bagwell was a Yankee, Red Sock, Cardinal or Cub we aren't even having this conversation. He'd be in already. Same with Biggio. Which is even more ridiculous than Bagwell being in.

Oh God had Biggio played in Chicago, New York or Boston there would probably be a short little statue with pine tar and eye black outside that ballpark. As someone who played second base growing up I loved me some Biggio. Fucking gamer.

He was an all star his last year as a catcher (1991) and played some CF early in his career.

True but they had Mo Vaughn. Both taken in the same draft class by the Sox which is crazy. Vaughn oddly enough was on the same college team as Craig Biggio.
