What a game! That entire series was unbelievable. I know it's a bit sad and says a lot about the last two decades of baseball in Toronto, but that may have been the most nerve-racking, exciting, intense series of baseball I've watch in 20 years.

Also: Melky Cabrera went 3 for 5 with 5 walks, which I believe is the first time a batter reached base 8 times in a game since 1972.
Cabrera and Bautista were both intentionally walked twice.

Very good year for Melky. Playing himself into a good long term deal somewhere. I could see my Rangers offering him a 3-4 year deal. He is just turning 30 tomorrow.

I don't disagree (mental midget) but as well as he has played someone will bite the bullet and give him a multi year deal. He has earned it.CopperTom wrote:he's a mental midget. What is your feeling on Heyward? Having a great year this year and a FA end of next year. Think you will sell high and trade him this offseason?

Gattis will be the one that's traded. We need a leadoff hitter.

I don't think the Braves would get nearly enough in return if they traded Hayward. A huge portion of his value is in his defense, and that still tends to be underrated.

the sox got peavy for iglesias's defensive value to the tigers. then again, stephen drew's defensive value wasn't worth multiple years and a compensation pick.philpritchard wrote:I don't think the Braves would get nearly enough in return if they traded Hayward. Peraza looks pretty athletic. I wonder if they will move him to the OF and try him at leadoff sometime next year.CopperTom wrote:Should they? Yes. Will they? Thing about Heyward is he's still young and I think if you put him in a better hitters park he can be a 30 homer a year guy.philpritchard wrote:I don't think the Braves would get nearly enough in return if they traded Hayward. Agreed though that his D is his best attribute. Fantastic right fielder.

Peavy was decent in the 2nd half for them, hell the first half of this year. It wasnt a huge return, but then again, Iglesias isnt that good.cutuphalfdead wrote:Exactly. He kept Ryan Dempster(and Webster, Workman, etc.) out of the rotation, and gave them quality starts. Had Lester or Lackey gone down, Peavy would have been more valuable conceivably. I'd still make that trade today and have no problem with it.cutuphalfdead wrote:Peavy was a second Ryan Dempster and did almost nothing to help us win.numbers wrote:Peavy was decent in the 2nd half for them, hell the first half of this year. Re: MLB
We gave up a star defensive shortstop, which we had to resign stephen drew to address the hole it left, in order to get a 4.04 ERA (Peavy's with the Sox in 2013) instead of a 4.9 (Workman's that year). Not worth it as far as I'm concerned. We still make the playoffs without Peavy in 2013 and once we got there he was garbage.numbers wrote:He kept Ryan Dempster(and Webster, Workman, etc.) out of the rotation, and gave them quality starts. Re: MLB
He didnt pitch well in the World Series, but had a very good start against Tampa in the DS. Maybe they didnt need to make the trade when all was said and done, but it was prudent to solidify the rotation before the stretch run. Iglesias, while an incredible defender, cannot hit, and I'm ok with letting him walk when you have Bogaerts and Marerro right behind him in the system.cutuphalfdead wrote:We gave up a star defensive shortstop, which we had to resign stephen drew to address the hole it left, in order to get a 4.04 ERA (Peavy's with the Sox in 2013) instead of a 4.9 (Workman's that year). Except for his rookie year in which he hi 258, Ozzie Smith didn't crack 250 until his 7th year in the majors. He didn't touch .280 until his 8th year. Bats can come around later, and Igeslias's defense was that good.numbers wrote:He didnt pitch well in the World Series, but had a very good start against Tampa in the DS. Re: MLB
You know as well as I do he was doing it with smoke and mirrors, you were watching the same games. The guy had so many weird bloopy infield hits in the first half. I'm not saying Iglesias isnt an amazing shortstop, and that I wouldnt want him on the team now. I was willing to make that sacrifice to get a 3rd starter in here and go for that World Series. Just like I would be willing to trade Bradley this year for someone like Peavy if they were in the same spot.cutuphalfdead wrote:Except for his rookie year in which he hi 258, Ozzie Smith didn't crack 250 until his 7th year in the majors.
