It's a couple of weeks old now, but the Nerdist podcast episode recorded at Comic Con with CM Punk is a must listen...not a lot of wrestling content but still so enjoyable and very very funny

Here's a great documentary DVD... I think there are snippets on youtube, it used to be on Netflix, and you can still get it on Amazon. I have the 2 disc set... 2nd disc has several complete matches... some legendary stuff where I grew up, back in the early 80's.

Are you from the metroplex? I have lots of family in the Dallas area.
Feuds rarely have been better than the Von Erichs/Freebirds and heels rarely have been better than Rick Rude.

Re: Official WWE/Pro Wrestling thread
Yeah, I was born in Dallas. Grew up in Mesquite. Saw a lot of matches at the Sportatorium and the Rodeo Arena (before and after the renovation)... The Great Kabuki was my absolute favorite, but he creeped me the fuck out! Never saw the matches at Texas Stadium or the Cotton Bowl, so I'm glad some of it is on the DVD. I think Marc Lawrence is a preacher somewhere in the Metroplex now. I bet he's awesome at it

My best friend's parents live in Mesquite. Small world. REALLY pulling for Wrestlemania 32 to be at Cowboys Stadium which is like 10 minutes from my sister's house.Iholdthepain wrote:Yeah, I was born in Dallas. Grew up in Mesquite. The network is so wonderful. Diving into HBK's first title run in 96. Just classic stuff. Great matches with Bulldog, Vader, Mankind (mind games is a 5 star classic) and even the matches with Sid are good. In fact the Survivor Series match is great. HBK could sell and work like no other.

That match with foley is great. Michaels turned him into Bret Hart for a night.

Foley was a pretty good compliment to a lot of guys. A very underrated worker and performer. Amazing matches with Taker, HHH, Austin, Rock, Orton, Edge, etc. Even going back to WCW he had classics with Sting and Vader.numbers wrote:That match with foley is great. But yes I can't say enough good things about Mind Games. Really gave HBK a mean streak.

You know what's a really good, underrated match from that era? The fatal four way from the final four IYH ppv in 97. Great work from taker, hart, and austin just as he's starting to become a main eventer. The real highlight though, is Vader. Has to be Vader's best match in wwe.

Oh totally. I love that match. One of the best from a stacked year. Bret superplexing Vader was incredible.numbers wrote:You know what's a really good, underrated match from that era? Vader was a beast. Vince totally mismamanged him. He was great in WCW and Japan but just so so in WWE. Rumor was HBK was supposed to drop the belt to Vader at Summerslam 96, successfully defend it in a rematch at Survivor Series 96 and HBK was going to win it back at Rumble 97 (in his hometown) but HBK refused. Which is why Sid won the title at Survivor Series 96.

Re: Official WWE/Pro Wrestling thread
I really liked Vader. Usually I dont like the big guys(I think Taker is vastly overrated for example) but Vader was really good, he could move around well and didnt need rest holds every 2 minutes.

Vader was athletic as fuck for a big man. Was a D1 offensive lineman and I believe was in the NFL for a little bit. Him and Bam Bam Bigelow were very fun to watch. They were a tag team in Japan. Check these out....numbers wrote:I really liked Vader. The Sting v Vader match at Starcade(?) where Sting won the title was a great match. I still remember that one.BigRedLedbetter wrote:Vader was athletic as fuck for a big man. Re: Official WWE/Pro Wrestling thread
Scott Steiner (pre ridiculous amount of roids and with a sweet mullet) was awesome. My buddy ran into him at a Gold's gym in Omaha in 2003 before a WWE house show and I guess he was a huge jerk. Weird.
Steamboat is sooooooo underrated. The three matches he had with Flair (Chi Town Rumble, Clash of the Champions and Wrestle War) in 1989 never get old.
