7.5 miles with 2,400 in elevation change in 61 minutes
Favorite trail. Surprisingly full of hikers. Pretty much a balls out effort with a nice finishing kick. Considering the temperature and how full the trail was, I'd say I'm on track to destroy my PR for this trail this winter.

I'm running my first marathon at the end of Sept. T2B. How do I not shit myself during the race?

Re: The Running Thread
You should get up at least 3 hours before the race and immediately down two cups of coffee. I usually get my first one in 30 to 45 minutes after. Remember that you'll probably have had a fairly large (but not too large) dinner the night before, so it shouldn't be a problem. I generally take TP and wet wipes with me to the race because about 75% of the time I score a "twofer" and don't rely on the porta potties to have TP.

Yes. I shit myself in my first 50-mile race. Luckily it rained heavily for 2 solid days before the race and the desert course was a muddy mess. I simply "fell" and nobody seemed to notice the smell.

My math teacher in high school used to sit on the camera truck for the Boston Marathon and help figure out how to get shots of runners without bloody nipples or poopy legs.

HIs wife just corrected herself on Facebook and said, "13 hours, sorry!" I mean, I don't run 50 miles in a month, so it's still amazing.turned2black wrote:Yes. That's very good.Simple Torture wrote:One of my colleagues ran a 50 miles race in 7:35. Is that good?

Re: The Running Thread
Yeah, that makes more sense. 7:35 would win a lot of 50-mile races.Simple Torture wrote:HIs wife just corrected herself on Facebook and said, "13 hours, sorry!" Re: The Running Thread
Good run today, did 10.5 KM. This half marathon training program is tough going, but I'm loving the challenge. Give me another year or 2 before I'm doing the Ultra-marathons alongside you psychos.

7.5 miles with 2,400 feet in elevation change in 63 minutes
Right knee has been complaining since tweaking it on a bike ride with my son. Been taking it really easy for more than a week now and can feel my fitness starting to fade. Hit my favorite trail. Nice cool morning (in the 70s, fuck yeah!). Easy, but steady pace. Then I came upon a pack of about 20 runners. The dude at the front of the pack tried to stay with me. I dropped him after half a mile, but kept up the race pace until the finish. I had planned on just taking it easy, so it was nice to have my competitive fire lit.

Re: The Running Thread
I've been taking it easy since a few weeks after Jamestown. The ITB tendonitis constantly felt like I was doing damage so I have gotten a few ART sessions along with foam-rolling like a motherfucker. I logged miles for the first time in a month Saturday and had my first pain free run (3.106 mi) since a bit before Jamestown.
I've never had any kind of sports injury that wasn't visible, so pain along with rest was quite new to me but what I've done seems to have worked and aside from a tight top of the right foot (probably from kickin' some rust off) I'd say it was worth it. The break was fuckin' difficult but I really want Newport to go well and I have my eyes on the Sugarloaf Marathon next year.
I also noticed that my right running shoe is has become worn from pronating the right, obviously compensating for that IT band and the leg that no longer wanted to bend on long runs; not looking for new kicks yet but it's now on my mind.
