I agree with that. Cueto and Wainright are there as well. Nobody is talking about how great Cueto has been this year. Corey Kluber in Cleveland as well.Lament wrote:Twitter is a treasure chest of random Chris Sale stats tonight. It helps me forget momentarily how bad the Sox pen is.
Kershaw is obviously the best pitcher in the world. And I wouldn't argue much against someone putting King Felix second. But Sale is at worst the third best starting pitcher on the planet right now.

Kershaw, Felix and Sale are a pretty clear 1-2-3 with a big group of really, really good pitchers bunched up behind them. I think the best chances of another pitcher joining that upper group were Jose Fernandez and Matt Harvey, but... injuries suck.

The thing about Cueto is he's always been this good, he's just always missed at least half the season with injury.BigRedLedbetter wrote:I agree with that. Cueto and Wainright are there as well. Wainwright should be there before Cueto, at least according to this season's numbers.BigRedLedbetter wrote:No love for Cueto?philpritchard wrote:Kershaw, Felix and Sale are a pretty clear 1-2-3 with a big group of really, really good pitchers bunched up behind them. Cueto has a 2.05 ERA but a 3.14 FIP
Wainwright has a 2.34 ERA but a 2.78 FIP
And I'm saying this as one of the bigger Cueto fans around.

Re: MLB
Agreed on Cueto. Watching him even early in his career there is a little bit of Pedro there. He missed a little time in 2011 and a lot last year but every other year he's been good if not great. Next year is the last year of his contract. I wonder if they will sell high on him? I read the other day that despite his injury history he's made like 84% of his scheduled starts which isn't awful. Pitchers get hurt but I'd worry a little about Cueto's frame. It's the nature of the beast. Without looking it up I believe Wainright had TJ?cutuphalfdead wrote:The thing about Cueto is he's always been this good, he's just always missed at least half the season with injury.BigRedLedbetter wrote:I agree with that. I'd like to see what Cueto could do away from that POS ballpark he has to pitch in half the time and pitch somewhere equivalent of Dodger Stadium or Busch. His homers allowed would go down somewhere you'd think. Also, I don't mind that he pitches inside and hits someone now and again. Kinda like Pedro. Agreed though Wainright is really good. Probably even a little underrated. Nice trade, Braves.

Cueto's a great pitcher, but he's in that next group with Wainwright, Kluber, Darvish, etc. Fernandez and Harvey are in that group too, but the reason I say they're the closest to joining the other three is that they've been this good at such a young age. I think it's reasonable to assume that Fernandez and Harvey are more likely than Cueto to find another gear.BigRedLedbetter wrote:No love for Cueto?philpritchard wrote:Kershaw, Felix and Sale are a pretty clear 1-2-3 with a big group of really, really good pitchers bunched up behind them. Not really. I'm not going to let a sweep and a three game deficit with 40 games left in the season get in the way of a little optimism!Bammer wrote:Care to reevaluate?philpritchard wrote:Pfft, whatever man.Bammer wrote:Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you there.BigRedLedbetter wrote:You guys are sitting in a good spot. I'm confident that adding two of the top ten hitters in major league baseball against right handed pitching in the span of a week makes the Jays a bit better than they've looked recently.

Missing one. All are right but the D Backs.
Hint...they are contending this year.

My baseball nerd friends and I play baseball trivia via text daily and that was the question today.
White Sox surprisingly have only made the playoffs 8 times in their history.

Re: MLB
I came up with the first four pretty quickly, had to think harder about the rest. I was about to say Angels but then realized that was fucking retarded of me considering the amount of times they face the Red Sox.BigRedLedbetter wrote:Very good.cutuphalfdead wrote:KC?BigRedLedbetter wrote:cutuphalfdead wrote:Red SoxBigRedLedbetter wrote:Trivia (try not to cheat)....
