If we're being honest, aren't most second albums better? I can actually think of very few cases where this is not true. Hence people listing approximately 1,000 albums in this thread. In my experience it is typically only nostalgia or cred-farming that makes people say the debut is the best. Almost every band peaks with their middle work before things get stale.

I'd say it's probably 50/50. I think a lot of bands struggle with the second album.
