Re: Second albums that were better than the debut
Good one.
To whoever thought almost every album fit this category, I see your point. I was originally aiming for bands whose second album was their best album, but I sort went away from that when I used Vs. and Southern Harmony as examples. In part, it's because I find second albums are often the most interesting record a band makes. The first one promises greatness. The second one delivers it. The third one sort of treads water. Of course that's not always the case. We had a debut thread a while back and came up with a pretty good list of bands who nailed it the first time out and never did anything quite so good again. Guns N Roses, The Sex Pistols, and (I'd argue) the Ramones are some examples. And then Vitalogy is a great example of a third album that topped the first two. Uh oh, I smell a new thread. Best sixth album. Rubber Soul! Binaural! Purple Rain!

lament, I've been through prince a few times. I just need to find time to review, which may not be until after the music tourneys.

I'm on it. I think I could put together a solid 75 minutes worth of songs you'd actually like by them.

Actually, I should make two mixes. One of their best stuff, and one of the stuff you'll probably like.

Yeah, I think I'll make sure the one tailored to your tastes veers more towards the lush and away from the abrasive, since you didn't respond well to their abrasive stuff.

No fucking way. Four Minute Mile is a fucking masterpiece. It and JEW's Clarity are the two best "emo" albums ever recorded.cutuphalfdead wrote:
