What is your favourite form of art/entertainment?
Music?
Film?
Video games?
Fine art?
Television?
Literature?
I'm not sure whether all of these things can be compared but I do want to know where your allegiances lie.

I knew that if only one person was going to nominate film then it would be you, LV.

I consume music much more frequently than any other art form, by virtue of its relative unobtrusiveness (it's easy to listen to music while performing myriad other tasks, while you can't really carefully watch a film while doing something else), but I am just as voracious in my love for film. In terms of their capacity to move and excite me, they're neck-and-neck. I don't think I could choose "sides", and thankfully I don't have to.

Literature, but fine art is the only form of entertainment I don't really care much about.

music, probably because I've never been very interested in pursuing it. The rest just feels like work at this point.

Film.
Though a good book usually does more for me, I don't get the time to read much any more.

Literature and "fine art" (I'm guessing this refers to visual arts?) are very close to my heart. I have about as much of a raging hardon for the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood as any ol' rock band. Couldn't give less of a shit about video games, though.

I'd swap fine art for video games in that assessment. Though there's some art I adore.theplatypus wrote:Literature and "fine art" (I'm guessing this refers to visual arts?) are very close to my heart. Music, and it's not even close. For the past eighteen years at all times I've had my foot in something related to music beyond just consuming it as a fan, be it working in a record store throughout high school, playing in bands non-stop since I was sixteen, or DJing at clubs. I've actually thrown away a lot of "good" (conventionally speaking) opportunities to keep music a bigger part of my life than it otherwise would be.
I would say even to a certain extent that music informs my tastes in other forms of art/entertainment in a way that goes beyond what other forms do to each other (or to music). If that makes sense.

I agree with what Platy said, it's music but it's so easy to consume music while doing other things. If I were to exclude music, it would be television series.

Re: What is your favourite form of art/entertainment?
Right now I'm more into movies that aren't very challenging or video games I've played before, since the snippets of free time I have don't last long and I want instant decompression and things I can easily walk away from. Good movies or reading demand more than I have to give right now.
But when I have the chance, going for a walk alone with my ipod is one of my very favorite things to do, I have pretty strong emotional reactions to powerful films, and nothing beats a good book. I almost always choke up a little bit when they're over.

Music is enjoying a strong resurgence in my life in part because RM is giving me a lot of stuff to listen to and a reason to listen to it, and in part because I don't have to shut down my life to do it.

Now that I think about it though, there are plenty of times where I just sit down with some herbal medicine and listen to music for an hour, or sit out at the pool for a couple hours with the ipod playing. I guess that would be listening to music without having other things such as driving, or working, or whatever going on.stip wrote:numbers wrote:I agree with what Platy said, it's music but it's so easy to consume music while doing other things. Good choice. I love commercials.
