The 1994 strike did save MLB the embarrassment of a sub .500 team making the playoffs out of the AL West, though.

Yes numbers. Yankees had the best record in the AL. Paul O' Neil was out of his mind that year.

Royals finished on a tear too. The AL Central was gonna be awesome down the stretch that year. David Cone was incredible that year.

Indeed. Man I loved Franco. I had Rangers Julio Franco wrist bands as a kid circa 1992. Guy could fucking rake.

It makes no sense Raines isn't in the hall of fame.

Bobby Abreu, Tim Raines and Carlos Beltran were the ones I really thought would be there.

Beltran is very close. He is only 22 hits away in the AL.

Wow. I didn't realize his swing and miss % on fastballs was that high. He'd be a #1 on a few teams.

Pretty sure he's arb eligible this year? Playing himself into a nice little pay day. I'm sure the Yankees would like to have him right now.

I am jealous of both of you. I went to White Sox and Brewers games up until 1995 (we moved out west) but do not have a single memory of any of the games. I do not even remember what Milwaukee County Stadium or Comiskey Park look like, other than in pictures, which makes me sad. I have a brief memory of U.S. Cellular Field where I was looking at the field while thinking the steps were steep. However, unfortunately, I have memories of Cubs

games from the TV. My Grandmother liked them, for whatever reason, and I have some memories of watching Dawson, Dunston, Grace and Sandberg playing. The town I lived in had a Single A team that had been affiliated with the Cubs and I was at a game where Sandberg threw out the first pitch. I have pictures somewhere.

In the 19 LDS-era seasons, only four teams who finished with the best record in baseball won the World Series (2013 Red Sox*, 2009 Yankee, 2007 Red Sox*, 1998 Yankees).

Some stats from the first sixteen seasons of LDS-era ball (I can't find them for all 19, and I really don't feel like crunching the numbers myself)...

On average the team who won the World Series had 7.1 less wins than the team with the best record (102-94.9). The average World Series champion had the fourth most wins in the league that season (well, 4.3 to be exact).

Baseball is a funny game. The best team almost never wins the World Series as these numbers prove. Without looking it up the Cardinals in 2006 won the World Series and were barely over .500. Fucking Cardinals. For you Red Sox folks they are my New York Mets. I digress............
