i'm assuming mcp read your spoiler links, because his comments regarding his displeasure with a tie in to the skywalker story line/the empire still exists in the new movie appeared soon after you posted those links.

All of this comes from the displeasure some have expressed regarding the Empire still having a presence 30 years after the hootenanny that ended RotJ.

We've all known for a long time that Han, Leia, and Luke were going to be in this. So the extension of that story is foregone. No one's debating it anymore. McP might still be all sigh about it, but he's been sigh about it for a long time now.

While I don't doubt that there are great non-Skywalker stories in the Star Wars universe, there's every indication that the Skywalker story line will continue for these movies. Why is there even discussion that this might not be a Skywalker story?

I'm assuming the new movies are about some of the children of Han/Leia, Luke/Whoever, Chewie/Lando, etc.

My guess is the original characters will appear to some extent in Ep VII, along with their kids. The following episodes will probably then focus more-so on the kids and their relative paths.
