Texas uber alles! Teams like OU have no identity besides hating Texas, so I'll take it.

The last few years have been rough but I think Strong is a great hire and will turn things around. I like that we have finally stopped coddling our players. Mack was horrible about that.

All I've heard really about Texas lately is that guys keep getting kicked off the team.

Let's be honest. Do they really belong in a preseason Top 25?

That's Strong, his message has basically been "fall in line or pack your bags." He's not putting up with the shit the players got used to over the last 10+ years.

And no, they don't at all. But I think they'll be better than the last few years for sure, and we won't fold like a tent in big games like we have been.

I'm a staunch Texas Longhorn hater. But I will be nice with this post at least.

I agree Strong was a solid hire. Good resume and mindset for how he wants to run your program. He will have a hard time duplicating Mack Brown's success though. Lets be honest Brown was not a great coach. I feel like his teams underachieved a lot. I mean 5 star recruits grow on trees for you guys but still. However, he won 158 games in 16 years and finished in the top 10 seven times. This hire has the feel that we will be in the same position 4-5 years from now. With Texas looking for a new coach due to their lofty expectations.

Just booked flights to Columbia, South Carolina and to College Station. Hoping to win one of those games. Any tips or places to go/see from people who have seen games/hung out there?

Can't wait for the season to start. Possibly the most talented team to ever be assembled in Tallahassee. It will be one hell of a ride once again this season.

First AP Top 25--take it for what it's worth, which is almost nothing.

As usual, I'll complain about ND being ranked to start the season. I'm skeptical about A&M being ranked as well. USC seems too high and Mizzou and UW seem too low.

1. Florida State (57 1st place votes) (1st in Coaches Poll)
2. Alabama (1) (2)
3. Oregon (1) (4)
4. Oklahoma (1) (3)
5. Ohio State (6)
6. Auburn (5)
7. UCLA (7)
8. Michigan State (8)
9. South Carolina (9)
10. Baylor (10)
11. Stanford (11)
12. Georgia (12)

14. Wisconsin (14)

16. Clemson (16)
17. Notre Dame (17)
18. Ole Miss (19)
19. Arizona State (18)
20. Kansas State (21)
21. Texas A&M (20)
22. Nebraska (22)
23. North Carolina (23)
24. Missouri (NR, first not receiving votes)
25. Washington (25)

does this make those picking Iowa to take the Big 10 title more or less crazy?

Does Ohio State have a decent backup? I don't really follow the Big Ten at all.

i assume so b/c of the program they are, but i feel like this drastically cuts into the gap between them and michigan st.

and i'm a ND fan, so I only pay attention to the big 10 teams that ND will play in a season. obviously, the cheating/dismissals at ND make them an outsider for the top 25, which really sucks. last year was golson (and Kiel being a bitch and leaving us with no QB) and now this crap... not to mention i have to erase 2012 from my memory b/c it never happened i guess.

Wisconsin and Michigan State have a better shot in the B1G than Iowa.

I think people's optimism is that Iowa doesn't play anybody this year (at least neither of the teams you've mentioned). On paper, their toughest opponent might be Maryland or Minnesota.

Well, they play Nebraska. But I have no faith we will beat them in Iowa City. We are the most undeserving team in the top 25.

I only had them playing 1 or 2 losable games with Miller, If they have a kid on the roster that can run around and just does what the coach tells him to do IE Tebow, they'll be ok. They still have a good bit of talent in a conference that doesn't have much out side of Michigan State.

Their schedule isn't that daunting though even with the loss of Miller.
