Delima vs. Chud
Another tough one.
Delima starts out slow. I just don't like QOTSA that much, and when Mark Lanegan can't make me care about them there's a problem. I think You and Whose Army is pretty boring. This is a great example of 'the emperor's new clothes' radiohead for me. Good Nirvana song, although it feels a little off. It's within the rules, and it was a clever pick, but it's not really a 2000s song. I don't like Greg? dulli, and this twilight singers song does nothing for me. I said this earlier, but the start of this song reminds me of On the Dark Side, which is an 80s guilty pleasure that I prefer. I'm also not a fan of this white stripes song, though I like this live vesrion better. Meg White has to be the most one dimensional drummer in the history of rock music.
The back half of his mix is a different story. The Songs: Ohia song impressed me, as has seemingly everything people drafted from that album. Morning Glory Wine is a great song, and All the Way down is even better. there are better pearl jam picks than Parting ways, but it's still very good. The Mogwai song was fine for what it is, but this stuff doesn't really excite me.
If there's one person who isn't gonna penalize Delima for three mark lanegan songs, it's me. Is it enough?
Chud was probably more consistent. Everything in its right place is a really good song, probably the only Kid A/Amnesiac sounding radiohead song that I genuinely like a lot. the wilco songs I've heard are all catchy and pleasant but in a slightly boring way. It won me over a bit by the end. Explosions in the Sky was a nice instrumental, but ultimately something that isn't going to stay with me. The St. Vincent song is a good one. Anti-Christ is one of Arcade Fire's best songs. The Sigur Rios song had a lovely electric shimmer to it. The Postal Service song was a nice piece slightly electronic mood music that fit in well with the rest of this mix. I do wish some of these songs had a bit more drama in them.
The Tegan and Sara song was a nice boost of energy after some of these other atmospheric pieces. I really like the banjo in rock music. Extraordinary Machines may be my favorite Fiona Apple song.
Way to fuck up the pearl jam pick, Chud.
So lets tally this. Chud had two songs that are kinda boring (In the Moonlight and Jesus, etc.). A few nice songs I won't be going back to (Sigur Rios, Explosions in the Sky, Postal Service), a few solid newish songs (Teagan and Sara/St. Vincent--though I first heard these on chud's mix), and Everything in its Right Place, Anti-Christ, and Extraordinary Machines anchoring the team. Overall very solid.
Delima had four weaker songs (QOTSA, Radiohead, Twilight Singers, White stripes). Mogwai was decent. Songs: Ohia was a solid new song. You Know You're Right, Morning Glory Wine, and All the Way Down are fantastic.
I think in the end the stars on Delima's team just aren't quite enough to make up for that rocky start.
Vote for Chud (probably)

i can't believe you can't hear why god is in the radio is so good though. and you and whose army is all menace and dread. it's up there with climbing up the walls as one of the great radiohead 'threat' songs.

I don't like QOTSA in general. Hanging Tree is maybe the only one I've gotten into. So the whole car is just passing me on the left.

Objectively this totally reads like you should be voting for delima. So lets tally this. Chud had two songs that are kinda boring (In the Moonlight and Jesus, etc.). It's like the Mike/BRL matchup. Delima/BRL had the top songs, but Chud/Mike have very consistently solid mixes.

You used the word 'fantastic', meaning there was some greater passion, whereas you kinda feel like you should vote for chud but in a boring, respectul way.stip wrote:How so? Talk me out of my Delima vote.

well that's true. But since I'm taking the time to actually listen to all this shit I'm trying to keep the overall picture in mind rather than account for the fact that Delima went big on my favorite artist.Heathen wrote:You used the word 'fantastic', meaning there was some greater passion, whereas you kinda feel like you should vote for chud but in a boring, respectul way.stip wrote:How so?
