MVP should pretty much go to the guy with the best WAR in the league.
You can stop blowing Keith Law any second now.
Why, because I think the guy who has the greatest ability to help a team win is the most valuable player?
It's a bit more complicated than that for me, but pretty much. There are enough error bars that a few of the top guys should be analyzed and compared together, and I'm ok with the idea that pitchers have their own award and pretty much have to have legendary seasons to win it.

It's one of those things I would really want to do but now that it's been done I would just be copying. Stupid other people and their thinking of things before me.

Can someone explain this?

My understanding is that it's these minor little insults that aren't really insults...but kinda are insults in the right context.

How did it start, and what the hell is going on?

Huh, if the Cy Young was given to the pitcher with the best WAR, Clemens would have won seven times...same as the awards he won, but the years don't match up exactly:

Clemens CY, actual: 1986, 1987, 1991, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2004
Clemens CY, hypothetical: 1987, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2005

I don't want to talk about it.
Still time but I'm baffled as well. I hope they get hot the next few weeks.
Yesterday's win was just the beginning. I still don't understand how I can be a Toronto sports fan and always believe that things are going to work out.

By the way anyone have a guess on what the "get in the door" price for that would be? My team hasn't been to the playoffs for a really long time.
My guess is less than $500.
Seriously for the worst seat in the house? Damn.
I was basing this off what it would take to get into Fenway (via a third party site like StubHub) for a standing room only seat during a playoff game; I imagine it would be about the same level of competativeness in St. Louis as I'm told it's an ok baseball town :)

This kind of makes me feel better about him signing with the Red Sox over the Tigers.

Could be damage control. Didn't all but 2 teams work this guy out/take a look? I dunno. As I said in the Sox thread, no real serious downside here. Need as many bats as we can get and this only costs $$ vs. having to give up talent.

The Tigers are saving all of their money so they can re-sign Verlander in 2039.
