Eddie was just scuba diving with him off the coast of Fiji, and he's really angry about the whole thing.

My favorite bits were the one where he was talking back to his son in the manner the son was acting, the drunken pilot, and the foreign dignitary he opened with. Also, the indifferent Frenchman.

Listening to this right now. Maron's intro is pretty poignant. He starts crying. Shit.

I get what he's saying and don't think he's completely wrong. But when there's a mental illness issue, such as depression, I'd say that's a bit of an extenuating circumstance.

I can't really find a fault with any of that logic. Especially...
I think as soon as you have children, you waive your right to take your own life.
Unfortunately, rationality and emotion are rarely on good speaking terms.

That's exactly what it comes down to. Rollins comes across like someone who has absolutely no idea what depression and mental illness does to you.

He actually admits to never having felt depressed, which in theory would make him unable to empathize.

Although, I find his statement to be very hard to believe.

Suicide is unarguably profoundly selfish, surely?

I've struggled with thoughts of hopelessness more than I'd like to admit, and have lost dearly close friends to suicide, and I think Rollins is a great deal more right than he is wrong in that piece.

Rollins has made a career out of being a contrarian. No surprises he'd take this stance but I think he's a tool for doing so.

A guy I work with has a daughter who has tried to take her life a few times over the last decade. He now says to her that it the most selfish act she can do and that it is in effect killing a part of the ones who care for her. He also has said that no matter how bad a situation (even involving him) she can just cut the crap and talk with him. That he will suspend any argument etc to just talk. Almost like having a safe word.

He swears his way is right and she hasn't tried recently.
