besides the vocal take, which is definitely different, are the guitars/bass/drums all different, too? it sounds like a totally different recording to me, but i could be wrong.

Sorry, I missed this--I definitely like the "Lost Dogs" version better. What I like best about "In the Moonlight" is the contrast between the sludgy, lumbering sense of menace and the bizarre feeling of serenity the song manages to convey in spite of it. The outtake version dispenses too significantly with the latter, in my opinion. Plus it's missing one of the verses that I've just grown used to hearing.

It's a rough sketch demo. Bears no resemblance to the finished version.

Maybe I missed it on the list, or maybe we're calling it something else, but I didn't see the live Untitled track from LO2L.

I didn't include it as it is 'technically' an improv, even if it is arguably the most important of them. I only included live stuff like falling down or out of my mind if it was on a non-live album release.

it would be cool if someone made a companion piece to this with all the major live improvs, but I'm not the person to do it.

What was Falling Down released on?

EDIT: Never mind. Reread the OP.

I would count ""Untitled" as a proper song at this point, even though it originated as an improv. I've heard of a number of bands who compose by going back and listening to their improvisations; this seems kind of like that.

Agree.

And it has pretty much been the same and served as the intro to MFC for damn near 20 years.

Hi :)

About Alive.

I got a VOB file of the video of Alive, I extracted the audio (lossless) 'cause it has the waves intro. The version at the singles (& euro ten) doesn't have the waves intro.

There was a version available from Rhapsody site (with Verizon I think, promoting the Ten re-issue). It's like a Redux version, but with different solo, and it's a different solo against the 3song-sampler version. I got it in mp3.

And there was a version on video of the BBC The Late Show performance at the site of Amazon, I think, promoting the Ten re-issue. It has an intro about the tour in UK, spoken by a woman. I got the FLV, and extracted the audio (lossy mp3). Their first appearance on TV.

Have you listened to them?

If it's the one with the alternate (in fact, original) guitar solo, I presume it's the same version that was distributed as a promo single prior to Ten being released.

That's actually my favourite version of the song: mixed by Rick Parasher, not Tim Palmer, different guitar solo and, quite crucially, no wimpy soft-focus acoustic guitars as on the album mix.

I have that too. Maybe I'm crazy, but it's a different guitar solo.

I just took a listen to the Rhapsody version that spived has, and though it sounds like the album version - it does indeed have a different solo! Not like any other version I've heard

It's a low quality mp3 - surely would be okay to post here?

hmmm, this may actually be new. Let me check it against the 3 song sampler, but this definitely sounds different to how I remember that one.

any speculation regarding its origins?
