the pats got a conditional 7th rounder for Mallett and a conditional 4th (along with Tim Wright) for Mankins.

each swap is obviously better than nothing, but not much better.

So yeah, Irsay he's getting off with probation, and the NFL probably won't do much either.

I'm still struggling at what an appropriate league punishment would be for an owner. A suspension does jack shit. They can easily afford fines even orders of magnitude larger than the players. Things like forfeited draft picks or cap space just hurt the entire team for the sins of the owner. Anyone else have ideas?

A fine is pretty good, denial of shared revenue for an entire year is a pretty good start.

But again, denial of shared revenue hurts the entire Colts organization, not just Irsay.

Mandatory rehab is good, but not unusually different from any player/coach/employee.

The Broncos themselves levied fines and indefinite suspensions that didn't last too long. The NFL didn't do anything, and I should thank my lucky stars from a fan standpoint that that happened before Irsay's crimes. I still think they got off too easy.

But again, the front office member has his career suffer from those punishments. The owner doesn't. Well, unless you're someone like Jerry Jones who's also the GM, but barring him from running the team might actually help the Cowboys...

I'm not really sure what they can do, save banning him from the stadium, and some withdrawal of team revenue. They could ask him to perform visible public service via the leagues charities but outside of the Donald Sterling treatment I'm not sure what the league can do.

The league will likely do what they can in some sort of light public way to placate the union somewhat and then go on about thier business, which is how it will go until something further happens. I imagine they will try to get him to stop using twitter.

Edit: Well, it's been issued $500,000 (max fine) and a 6 game "suspension"

He made some statements, but pretty boilerplate so I won't get into it.

The idea that it's just a first DUI is hogwash though because he was able to get all the drug charges to go away. It's not like he had too much wine at dinner, he's out of control.

Predictions anyone?

Seahawks over Packers (in Seattle)
Broncos over Colts (in Indy)

Seahawks over Broncos, but they only win by 3 TDs this time
