Plat had this on his mix in Lament's mix thread, it fit that mood beautifully. I love putting the album on whilst I lie on the couch and close my eyes on a Sunday afternoon. And because the live version from Letterman is what turned me into a fan, here it is. For anyone who may have missed it:

The Rival Sons song's an alright rocker. Like I said about the Black Keys, that blues-rock-revival stuff's not really my thing, but these guys do a good job of pulling it off. As Koopee said, the singer's got a strong voice, and uses it to full effect.
DeLima apparently can't youtube, so I had to look up his songs. The Queens song doesn't really do much to catch my attention. I like some of their singles, but it appears an entire album wouldn't be enjoyable to me. Actually around the halfway point, it's not too bad. It does a nice little slowdown bit, and then seems like it's going to take off in a new direction, but it doesn't.
Varis picks things back up with Bohren & Der Club of Gore. I really enjoyed this song when it was on Jorge's mix, and it's still good here. I can't dig the whole album, because a whole hour of that's a little lackluster, but in pieces it's nice moody and dark jazz.
"Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks" is slow, quiet indie pop. Is this sung by a different singer than usual? I much prefer Clogs, who share members with The National, but it's totally different music, too. I've heard these guys compared to Tindersticks, which I guess I can see on a totally superficial level, but that's a band I like more, too.
Okay, now onto Afghan Whigs. The song opens up being evocative of ZZ Top, maybe, but slower and probably not as fun. Yeah, that's a pretty good way to describe the vibe I'm getting here. I can definitely get behind some loud, fuzzy, blues-rock when the time's right, but something here's just not doing it for me.

Matana Roberts - I Am
This is taken from her emotionally powerful conceptual album Coin Coin Chapter One: Gens de couleur libres centered around the life of Marie Therese Metoyer (aka Coin Coin), a freed slave from the 18th century.

No way it was lasting until your last pick either. Great song. Just wonderful. Dark, haunting and beautiful.Varis wrote:And at No. 2 I'm going with:

In a perfect world this would be my mix closer, but we all know this ain't no perfect world.

I'll watch the letterman performance later, but I'd be lying if I said I really didn't like this song on the record.durdencommatyler wrote:St Vincent - Bring Me Your Loves
