Because the situation is a gross violation of her privacy (no different than breaking into her house and stealing them) and frankly Upton was the one who suffered the most embarrassing of the leaks with the least amount of press support (unlike Lawrence). I mean she got totally shafted. The short end of the stick for sure.

Additionally, especially in her case, eventual topless shots could have been very lucrative for her financially had she chosen to ever go down that path.

The amount of victim blaming is just insane... quite disheartening.
Oh suddenly people around here have a conscience now.

Great. That's just fucking great.

They're all over the Internet. You can find them if you look.

You suck at the internet if you can't find them.

I will say though that a lot of the supposed "victim blaming' isn't really that. It's just sound advice across the board.

I can think that a victim displayed poor judgment without assigning them blame or responsibility, and it doesn't minimize how terrible the act was.

Didn't I read that the victims here had deleted a lot of these pictures and Apple held onto them anyway?

Yeah but in so many cases the "poor judgment" that people are shunning is usually dependent on that judgmental person's values and morals. Why is it in poor judgment for a girl to take naked pictures of herself to share privately with her significant other? Because someone might steal them? So is it poor judgment to ever own anything valuable because its asking for theft? And don't say it's poor judgment to store them on the cloud. That's like saying it's poor judgment to lock your valuables in a strong box because the lock can be picked.

On another note, I really don't like the language that's being used to describe what happened. Media outlets shouldn't be calling this a leak. A leak is what happens when someone who has the rights to something private shares it with those who don't. This was theft and the guy who did it belongs in jail.

Nah, it wasn't. It's not like it's the first celebrity leak of this nature, just of this scope. Locking your bike up with a rubber band isn't locking it up.

and it doesn't make the kid who takes it any less of a thief. And it doesn't mean it's your fault. But don't be so naive to think you shouldn't take more precaution either- especially if it's a really nice bike.

From what I understand this was done through password guessing, probably automated. That's digital lock picking if there ever was such a thing.

On the most basic standard locks out there. And I heard this was done through basic password resetting- answering security questions.

Either way, it was a gross invasion of privacy and should be prosecuted.

The first rumor was it that "Find My Phone" or one of the other "Find My" apps did not have protection against brute force attacks, but Apple denied this was used even though they patched it Sunday. It's more likely it was several months of spear-phishing based on matching the celeb's email address used on itunes/icloud with well known and published lists in the hacker community. IIRC, when Sarah Palin's email was hacked a few years back the kid that did it simple reset her password based on questions like "what was your first car?" and information of this type is readily available for famous people.

Easily solution:

What was your first car: 976-prism-976
Where did you get engaged: 976-newyork-976

So it's like they went out and got a lock breaking kit and found a relatively easy safe to crack. Damn those fools for not storing their valuables at fort knox.

A) She's not. B) Choose your side of the fence. This time, the media has decided it's an outrage instead of something to joke about.

You're right, because we as a culture are historically wrong with how we react to this type of thing it's silly to be right about it now.
