And the Red Sox had intsructed every young pitcher to do whatever Beckett does. So you had a clubhouse full of little Becketts.

I'm willing to change that to Billy Beane/Brad Pitt.

As a result of this, Jon Lester now speaks with a fake Texas accent.

The best part of Moneyball is when Billy Beane trashes Kenny Williams for the way he was building his team & then that very White Sox he was building won the World Series.

I don think many people try to paint it that way. It gives you a good idea of what a player's value is, but you have to look at the underlying stats to get the bigger picture

I think it has more to do with the fact that the Replacement level DH generally has better offensive numbers on average, so as a DH it requires better numbers than say a 2B.
Wait, WAR isn't calculated comparative to the average player at your position, it's calculated compared to the average player in general, no?

Maybe I am understanding it wrong, but i thought it did adjust for position. Like Miggy is actually a decent 1B, and a terrible 3B, but because the average offensive statistics for a 1B are better, it doesn't help is overall WAR.
I don't think it has anything to do with offensive stats though. The positional adjustment is there because the easy defensive positions are easy to find someone to fill in. It's essentially a defensive adjustment. A poor defensive shortstop is still more valuable defensively than an elite defensive first baseman. That's what the positional adjustment is accounting for.

I'm disregarding all statistics when making my picks and am just going by who Hawk tells me has "the will to win."
