that song is crazy good
You know, it always struck me as a lesser remake of "Barcarolle" from Alice (the melody is kind of similar and I love "Barcarolle" so much better) but it's really doing it for me now.
I like Barcarolle more than I used to. but New Years Eve struck a chord with me from the first listen.

Okay, listened to team Bada and Bugs

Bugs

Black Keys—this was pretty good.
QOTSA—this was okay, but if I don’t like the QOTSA fast stuff the slow stuff probably isn’t going to move me
Tame impala—the late 60s/early 70s pyschadelic thing isn’t my thing
Thee Oh Sees—I don’t like overly fuzzy guitar rock. One of the reasons why the white stripes are so hit or miss for me.
Waaaves—alterna pop style I’m also not really into.

I don’t think most of these are bad songs, and totally get the appeal of them. But I’m not going to be their audience

Royal Blood—This sounds like the kind of song I wouild have ignored in the late 90s/early 2000s
Parquet Courts – I really dug the music on this one, but I’m usually not a fan of this kind of lazy drawl in lead vocals. This also reminds me of the Ramones a bit which, for me anyway, is not a good thing
Billy Goat – this was a fun little song. Probably my favorite thing on this mix.
Chris Robinson fits in really well on this mix. I like chris robinson in small doses. 9 minutes drags a bit, but this was a nice song—a good showcase for what he does.
The strokes-sounds like a generic strokes song. Don't understand why they're a big deal.

Bada

Broken Bells—this was pretty solid . A good wistful road song
Spoon-I’m not sure I had ever heard a spoon song before. Reminded me a little bit of what I think the strokes are often going for, but this was better.
Arctic Monkeys – this was better than the Arctic Monkeys song from the last tournament, but still not my thing.
Soundgarden—this was one of the better songs on the more recent album
Mastodon—interchangeable metalish stuff. Songs like this remind me how important Layne Staley’s voice was to making alice in chains work, even though jerry Cantrell wrote most of my favorite songs.
Beastie Boys –I don’t care for their music, but these guys made great videos
Darkness – not for me
Mescalito – This is an amazing song. One of the 4 lanegan songs I had in contention for this decade.
DFA—this was alright. Didn’t leave too much of an impression either way
That taylor swift song was pretty good.

Bada takes this easily. Like I said in my comments, I get the appeal of a lot of what Bugs took, but it’s pretty far from my tastes. Bada didn’t have anything I’m going to feel compelled to check out, but there were a number of pretty good songs in there, plus Mescalito

I never set out to have an all female team. But I run up into a difficult decision as it started to unfold that way. Ultimately, I decided to stick with songs that truly mean a lot to me and represent who I am and what I listen to the most in this decade. I could have gone with two more female singers but it felt disingenuous to force it.

But I did think really hard about completing the team. Honestly, I didn't really think I stood much of a chance regardless.

Respect, brother - you didn't actually lose any points, 'cuz I'm doing this one strictly by the numbers this time around. Just thought it'd be kind cool to have a themed team.

After all these tourneys I think it's safe to say Stip thinks my taste in music is solid if unspectacular.
