I cannot recall the specifics of the play. Wasn't there a fumble and they ruled it Seahawks ball even though Bowman clearly recovered the ball and was down by contact?Bammer wrote:That call probably should have gone the other way to be honest.Monkey_Driven wrote:One of the most obvious examples of a play that is not reviewable but should be under certain circumstances is Navorro Bowman's fumble recovery in the NFC Championship game this year.

Yes I think so as I recall and then he dropped the ball when his leg snapped but arguably he was already down and play was over.Monkey_Driven wrote:I cannot recall the specifics of the play. I blocked the leg snapping thing out of my mind.Bammer wrote:Yes I think so as I recall and then he dropped the ball when his leg snapped but arguably he was already down and play was over.Monkey_Driven wrote:I cannot recall the specifics of the play. Are there any "unwritten" rules in football (besides intentionally running up the score in high school football)?

the majority i can think of have to do with roster building. but i want to say there's another one for accepting the delay of game penalty when your opponent wants the extra yards when punting.Chris_H_2 wrote:Are there any "unwritten" rules in football (besides intentionally running up the score in high school football)?

Do you even have the option of declining a delay of game, since it's a pre-snap penalty?elliseamos wrote:the majority i can think of have to do with roster building. but i want to say there's another one for accepting the delay of game penalty when your opponent wants the extra yards when punting.Chris_H_2 wrote:Are there any "unwritten" rules in football (besides intentionally running up the score in high school football)?
The only unwritten football rule I can think of would be crashing the victory formation. Or at least it's unwritten in Tom Coughlin's book.

Re: Stupid Rules In Sports
The kickoff in the NFL has become pretty pointless. Any decent kicker can put it in the endzone if he wants to. I guess the only reason not to do away with it entirely and just always start teams at the 20 might be to preserve onside kicks.

I still like the idea of turning the kickoff into a 4th and long situation. Most of the time teams would punt but you'd still have the option to convert that 4th and long to substitute for the onside kick.verb_to_trust wrote:The kickoff in the NFL has become pretty pointless. It is kind of busch league to steal bases when you are up by 7 runs or more. It's classless to throw deep on someone if you are up by 5-6 touchdowns.philpritchard wrote:And baseball is by FAR the worst for that.elliseamos wrote:anything that's referred to as "unwritten" is stupid.

Eliminate kickoffs (just start at the 25) and extra points in the NFL and college.

I'm glad the NFL started reviewing plays at their headquarters. Makes a long game just a little bit shorter.

Kicking a punter in the head should not be a penalty.

Take that to the "Great Rules In Sports" thread!Monkey_Driven wrote:I'm glad the NFL started reviewing plays at their headquarters. Makes a long game just a little bit shorter.
I'm still on the fence about the increased scrutiny when it comes to contact on pass plays. It was certainly notable in the 3 games I watched yesterday, and even though there were more offensive PI calls than "usual," I still think the refs are watching the defenses more closely. I'm sure after tonight's games there will be lots of info available about penalties this week as opposed to the first week last year.

Re: Stupid Rules In Sports
Stop this nonsense. You've never seen a team come back from a 7 run deficit? Professional athletes should do everything they can within the rules of the game to put up as many points as possible. Whoever has the most at the end wins. If one team scores drastically more than the other, so be it.BigRedLedbetter wrote:It is kind of busch league to steal bases when you are up by 7 runs or more.
